Herbert or Wilbert

baby due any day now and we still haven't decided on a boys name. We both really like Bertie but can't have the obvious 'Robert' as we gave our first little boy that as his middle name.
So our current favourites are Herbert (I really like the nn Herbie too) or Wilbert. Hubby not keen on Albert as he says it is a nickname for a piercing in a certain part of a man's anatomy (!)
So which is the nicer name, Herbert or Wilbert. Which is the least likely to get his head kicked in at school? First son is called Monty by the way.
Thanks

I agree that Alfie/Albie/Archie type cutey names are likely to date soon - I would choose a more classic timeless name personally.

Wilbert is ok but I'm not keen on the shortening Will or Willy, but Herbert, nickname Herb is indeed cool - you'll be way ahead of the curve Smile.

Awful

BibiBelle · 13/11/2011 10:44

Oh dear god PLEASE use Herbert with Herb as a nn - brilliant Smile

LaFilleSurLePont · 13/11/2011 10:23

But Wilbert if you must.

LaFilleSurLePont · 13/11/2011 10:21

They're both awful.

mayanna123 · 13/11/2011 07:29

Girliefriend, don't you think there are more than enough Alfies/Archies/Albies already? Personally I find Bertie or Herbie nicer and less overused.

Fo0ffyShmooffer · 12/11/2011 23:16

Truthfully?

Neitherbert.

33goingon64 · 12/11/2011 23:10

Wilbert is not a name... Is it?

quietlyafraid · 12/11/2011 23:10

Your DH doesn't want Albert as it reminds him of a piercing of the willy, but is considering Wilbert instead? Do you not think he'll end up as Willy rather than Bertie?

girliefriend · 12/11/2011 23:04

I think you are signing him up to a lifetime of grief with any of those names - sorry!

Albert would be the only acceptable one imo but then shorten it to Albie - not Bertie!!!

mayanna123 · 12/11/2011 23:03

Herbert is nicer as is the nickname Herbie.

shineypenny · 12/11/2011 23:01

Hubert

Prunella79 · 12/11/2011 22:57

gilbert?

AgathaTrunchbull · 12/11/2011 21:53

Aethelbert
Philbert
Bertram
Norbert

There's nothing wrong with Albert - no one at school is going to make is going to make the piercing connection. There are plenty of boys called William who aren't called 'Willie'! My grandfather is quite often called 'Albie' for short.

Bibbo · 12/11/2011 21:53

Depends where he goes to school, but I'd say either name would leave him pretty vulnerable to a kick-in!
