We already have a 2 DSs with distictly Irish names and are struggling to come up for ANY names for DC3. We are only 20 weeks so plenty of time yet but I want to be sorted when he or she arrives. So far we have a few ideas, none that we love though. Opinions on the following names and suggestions of similar names would be gratefully recieved.

Boys
Fergus
Brady
Cormac
Murphy
Seamus/Shat

Girls
Alannah
Niamh
Talulla

finnbob · 14/11/2011 20:56

My name is Fionnuala and I was born in England and lived there until I was 10, there were no problems in school etc with pronunciation, it was usually spelled wrong but that also happens now that I'm living in Ireland! I've always liked my name, it's unusual in Ireland too so its nice to have something a bit different. A lot of family and friends call me Finn, and my Dad calls me Finny as a pet name even though I'm pushing 30!

Other Irish names I like are

Daithi
Conall
Patrick

Sadhbh
Roise (row sha)
Blaithin

Hope you find something you like!

Thanks Laters for scaring the crap out of me and making me delete posts, lol. :)

LatersTaters · 13/11/2011 22:11

Grainger I have an inkling I may know you...?

Especially if your DCs are boys and you are a Harry Potter fan?!

Anyway, I shall ignore and not look at your history or anything, don't freak! Grin

mathanxiety · 11/11/2011 20:54

Please spare your possible DS the 'hardcore Irish/' plastic paddy Murphy and Brady.

Cormac is lovely, and Fergus too.

I like Alannah and Niamh very much also. Mairead and Aoife are also very nice. I think Mairead is gaining in popularity as it doesn't make people think Maggie T but it's still a version of Margaret. It is also familiar as far as pronunciation goes because of the previous popularity of Sinead.

TheMadHatter74 · 11/11/2011 20:42

Niamh is in the English top 100 though so would be more well known

No more or no less Irish than Niamh

TheMadHatter74 · 11/11/2011 19:51

We do love Fionnuala, but might it be a bit too Irish if living in England?

Like Shay and Ciaran for boys; and Niamh and Caitlin for girls.

All very sweet! Smile

TapselteerieO · 11/11/2011 13:59

If I ever had another baby girl I would call her Orla, DH is Irish and I am Scottish, so my dc have names that have a Scottish/Irish connection. I find girls names harder to choose than boys, ds has a middle name, whereas dd nearly got called Finn (was her nn when I was pg).

TheMadHatter74 · 10/11/2011 22:23

Thanks for the suggestions, I won't divulge but both DS's names have already been suggested so you have good taste :o

At the moment we are really struggling with girl's names - neither of us really like Clodagh, Aoife, Aisling, Sinead or Siobhan. We are liking Mairead and Orla though so keep them coming!

I've got a kian, Liam and a Jayden Smile

HappyHugs · 10/11/2011 22:07

I wouldn't consider Murphy, Brady or Talulla to be Irish names. I've lived here nearly 40 years and have only heard the first two as surnames and have never known anyone called Talulla.

There's lots of beautiful Irish names, most of my favourites are listed above; also love Sean for a boy and Aobh (eve) for a girl.

Superfly · 10/11/2011 22:05

Murphy is a surname
