If you could choose just one boys name as your all time favourite- what would it be?

We are really stuck on a name for DS2. We already have DS1 who is Joseph, we loved this name from day one and never ever had any doubts throughout the pregnancy and when he was born it just 'fit' and suited him perfectly. I think I love his name so much that thinking of another I like as much is impossible!

Currently names we like but don't LOVE are:
Thomas
Henry
Oliver

All fairly traditional and popular names but my question is if you could pick just ONE boys name, unusual, popular or traditional, what would it be??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

We live in Spain where they'd have pronounced it Ham-es but otherwise DS would have been James. As it was he became Nicolás as they couldn't mangle that it's pronounced the same pretty much in English and Spanish. So, top names would be Nicholas and James.

Richard,
Michael
james
marcus
special names to me.

ilove spinach
We also have a Henry and Joseph.
When we were in France last summer we went to a Michelin starred restaurant call Henri et Joseph.

I don't think I have an all time favourite boys name.

Today I would probably pick Wilfred (a name I know DH would never agree to).

I also adore Lysander but don't think I would ever use it in RL.

MustControlFistOfDeath · 10/11/2011 14:18

LadyClarice it's the Polish spelling Smile

gladders · 10/11/2011 14:14

George

didn't use it for ds as he didn't look like a George, but really think it's lovely - great for a baby, a boy and a man and cannot be shortened. classic.

wolfear · 10/11/2011 14:10

My DSs are Rudy and Monty and I still love them both

LizaTarbucksNonSmokingAuntie · 10/11/2011 14:09

Littlemad is Julian which I still think is the coolest name in the world for a boy.

He is variously Jules and Jude...

ancientgeordiegirl · 10/11/2011 14:08

I used my favourite boy's name for my second DS - Rory - love it and everyone in RL always comments on how much they like it. Is not too out there but is also not too popular. Celebrity Rorys always seem to be quite decent blokes too!

My first DS is George a family tradition but I have come to love it as it suits him and I always think of gorgeous George (Clooney) so I think it's a good name for him to grow into.

CurwySwide · 10/11/2011 14:01

George, very closely followed by Rufus

Out of your list, I love Henry - my DS was very nearly a Henry

blue2711 · 10/11/2011 13:58

Jude.

Just fantastic. If only I could think of a girl's name so wonderful.

HazzaB · 10/11/2011 13:50

Lots of gorgeous names! My DH is Joseph. Our boys are Samuel and Alexander. They all go well together imo - Joe, Sam & Alex.

harrygraciepie · 10/11/2011 13:50

i am currently pg with 3rd child, we have already Gracie aged 5 and Harrison 18months, I knew both of these all the way through but were a bit stuck on this one, we know its another boy but can only agree on one name which is Noah x

mayanna123 · 10/11/2011 13:44

I agree Peachy. Names are so very personal - we all have different associations with names (dependant on whether the school bully was a James or Connor for example).

I also think it is great that we all have different tastes. How dull would life be if we all chose the same names..?

naturalbaby · 10/11/2011 13:43

Thomas

5inthebed · 10/11/2011 13:42

Peachy, my Harry is Harry on paper, but gets Harold when naughty, even though not his "proper" name.

Love the boys' names you have though.

mslucy · 10/11/2011 13:30

my boys are Angus, Stanley & Max.
I'm told they're very masculine, which I guess is a good thing!

Peachy · 10/11/2011 13:29

The trouble with tehse anme threads is things are so individual

For example on paper I love Daniel listed above- doubt DH would have wanted to call a baby after my ExF Wink; likewise the only Duncan I know is a prat (adult, not being mean to small boys) so automatically disliked, and James is a no-no with our surname.

You can write off a LOT of names like that!

Peachy · 10/11/2011 13:27

We actually have 4 boys so wasn't an issue LMAO but ds4's name is my favourite- Sebastian, known as Baz.

The others are called Samuel Godfrey, Stirling Max and Harold Jarvis Griffith, all nice names IMO and which they suit (Harold obviously became Harry- was always intended to but using Harold made Grandad Harold happy Wink - Grandad Godfrey and Great Grandad Griffiths also well covered: result!)

5inthebed · 10/11/2011 13:23

Duncan.

I have three boys and none of them have this name as DH does not like it :(
