If you could choose just one boys name as your all time favourite- what would it be?

We are really stuck on a name for DS2. We already have DS1 who is Joseph, we loved this name from day one and never ever had any doubts throughout the pregnancy and when he was born it just 'fit' and suited him perfectly. I think I love his name so much that thinking of another I like as much is impossible!

Currently names we like but don't LOVE are:
Thomas
Henry
Oliver

All fairly traditional and popular names but my question is if you could pick just ONE boys name, unusual, popular or traditional, what would it be??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Nice to see my ds's name mentioned so often here.

I love Raphael. Being Scottish it was never really going to happen though.

MargeryDaw · 10/11/2011 19:44

DH and I loved Atticus when I was pregnant (nn Attie) but weren't brave enough to use it.

I also loved Arthur but DH hated it.

vinegarpuss · 10/11/2011 19:42

Adam

sharond101 · 10/11/2011 19:34

Ross, Connor, Bradley and Ben are my favourites. DH will need convincing. He likes Jamie but my Dad's brother is called James, everyone called him Jim but Dad always called hime Jamie. They had a huge argument two years ago and don't talk so don't think Dad be too pleased with that choice!

I cant decide between my ds's names as i love them all.
Xavier
Jonathan
Quentin

Also love Elijah but it clashes with dd1s name (Elizabeth nn Eliza). If we have another ds would prob choose Ezekiel(Zeke) or Alasdair.

My DS is Henry Joseph. It was either that or Joseph Henry but he looked like a Henry when he was born. I'm a bit gutted we used Joseph as a middle name to be honest as I love it and now can't use it in the future.

I adore Arthur but can't use it due to DP's surname.

Alexander
James
Calum
Finlay
Caleb
Finnion

If I had to choose one- Caleb.

I love Henry but couldn't use it due to our surname.

I love Teddy too. I wanted Theodore on the birth certificate so a DS could use that if he wanted but would be called Teddy.

We didn't use that one either but I love my DSs names (sorry don't want to out myself).

Thomas - I have one! Wanted him to be a Tom though, not a Tommy, but he is insisting that he remains Thomas at the moment...

Waspie · 10/11/2011 18:56

Can't believe someone has a daughter called Isolde - I love that name. Had my son been female he would have been Isolde Smile

My favourite boys name is Nathan. I also like Gethin, Isaac, Daniel and Jacob. I found it much harder to pick a boys name than a girls because there are so many more lovely names.

missmiss · 10/11/2011 18:46

Ooh I like August. Clement is nice too.

Pekka · 10/11/2011 18:45

Joel
August
Oskar
Lukas
Aleksander
Jakob

can't decide which is my favourite!!!!

C4ro · 10/11/2011 18:38

Conrad

HugosGoatee · 10/11/2011 18:38

Noooo too many James's!

It's not currently top ten, so hoping my due-in-Dec baby won't be too common!

Otherwise... Oliver and Matthew.

missmiss · 10/11/2011 18:36

Godfrey. Not sure I'd have the balls to use it, though.

3rdnparty · 10/11/2011 18:35

Round here Daniel is almost compulsory second boys name, especially if the first is named Joseph Grin no idea why but know 6 Daniels under 5 and I am not a teacher!

Out of your list Thomas would be my favourite....both we know are lovely - how about Noah or Isaac?

cece · 10/11/2011 18:31

Jonny

GetOutMyPub · 10/11/2011 18:29

I have two out of your three Grin

RIZZ0 · 10/11/2011 18:23

I also adore Rudy!!

Also another vote for Daniel, plus I like Nathan

performancegirl · 10/11/2011 18:19

Samuel, Dylan, Noah, Isaac. Have the first 2 but would love a Noah. Also Alexander, NN Xander.

BamBam21 · 10/11/2011 18:18

Definitely Ross - I have one and it just suits him so well, and it's masculine but also gentle.Smile

Love Daniel and Adam, and also love James but can't use it as it has an unlucky past in my family and I would worry I was tempting fate.

Lousielou · 10/11/2011 18:14

DS1 is also Joseph but always known as Joe. DH and I really struggled to come up with a name for DS2 but finally settled on Isaac after a bit of persuasion on my part!

slapmeonthepatio · 10/11/2011 18:06

We used Patrick as a MN, DS2 is called something else. But to me, I'll always wish he was called Patrick. He looks like a Patrick.

slapmeonthepatio · 10/11/2011 18:05

DS1 is Joseph, too.

My other favourite boys' name is Patrick. Didn't get to use this a first name though :(
