Camille - lovely or awful?

Pregnancy naming hormones going mad. Our daughter is due in 2 weeks and we can't agree on any names.
My husband loves Camille (nn Cammy) - I am warming to it but wondering whether I will regret it later?
Do you like it?

I love love Camille. I would have used it but am having a boy.

legallyblond · 11/11/2011 12:34

I do love Camille, but only the French pronounciation. I think you would get lots of "Cam-meal", which I don't like.

Cammy as nn is not good. It sounds like Clammy. I prefer Milly.

TidyDancer · 06/11/2011 12:53

Beautiful.

diddl · 06/11/2011 11:28

I really like it, but loathe Cammy.

Willowisp · 06/11/2011 11:07

GreyTS - thanks !

Montsti · 06/11/2011 10:32

Lovely name, but also not keen on Cammy/Cami.

Towndon · 06/11/2011 10:19

Camille is nice. Not Cami/cammy though - too similar to camisole.

Rhubarbgarden · 06/11/2011 09:17

Awful. Parker Bowles to me.

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 06/11/2011 08:12

Beautiful name. Really don't like Cammy though - way to ruin a truly lovely name. Sort of like shortening Isabelle to Izzy.

RosalindFranklinsNobelPrize · 06/11/2011 06:51

I prefer Cecile.

GreyTS · 06/11/2011 04:39

Ka'mee (Ka'mi) as opposed to the English Ka'meel (Ka'mil)

whatever117 · 06/11/2011 03:44

Love it - and dont NN it!

Italiangreyhound · 06/11/2011 03:02

Love it.

Willowisp · 06/11/2011 00:14

Greyts, what is the French way ?

Fo0ffyShmooffer · 05/11/2011 22:58

Love it but hate the nn Cammy/Cami. If you use a lovely name like that don't shorten it.

I love Camille. It's a beautiful name.

GreyTS · 05/11/2011 22:41

I love it but I have a Camille nn Cami, so I really hope you live nowhere near me! The reason we use Cami is that we pronounce our daughters name the French way so to most people it sounds like Cami.

abitlikemollflanders · 05/11/2011 22:32

Oh wow! DH doesn't seem to have chosen to badly! I thought everyone was going to hate it/tell me it's chavvy.
RL opinion (MIL)might not think it's too bad then!

It has grown on me over the pregnancy and I think we will go with it. The more I say it the more beautiful it sounds to me. I don't really like NNs as a rule but DH keeps calling bump Cammy...-I think in an effort to win me round. It seems to have worked.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, they have been reassuring.

Camille is a boy's name where I live, but is equally beautiful as a girl's name, imo.

Willowisp · 05/11/2011 22:27

My dd's middle name is Camille. It's a lovely name, but I do find it quite difficult to say, Camillllllllle.

I actually prefer Camilla but was vetoed by DH Sad as a first name. There is a beautiful little girl at school with the name Camilla & I'm sure no one is thinking of the Duchess when they use her name.

There is a model called Camilla Belle & I always feel a bit wistful when I read her name.....

Agree with not shortening it though, people will assume dd's name is Cameron.

LaFilleSurLePont · 05/11/2011 22:25

Beautiful.

FoxyRevenger · 05/11/2011 22:20

Lovely Smile

Although, I know one baby named Camille and she is always called 'Mealy'

Please don't do that...

lostlady · 05/11/2011 22:19

Love it, but please don't do nn Cammy- beautiful name, just use it Smile

kitya · 05/11/2011 22:17

Its a lovely name but, I knew a horrible one so Im put off it but, thats just me!! It is going to get popular as there's a singer out called Camille and she is going to be big.
