Genevieve- vivi for short.
India- love this but dm has been vocal about her dislike Angry
Annabel- our compromise name, nothing wrong with it.
Arabella- we both like.
Serena- 4yo ds fave name, don't know where it cameConfused from we don't know any and he goes to a boys school but it has grown on me.

Theo- both like not love.
Hugo- love this but we have a h surname.
Ellis- this is a recent I'm not sure.

Stuck for boys names so any suggestions most definitely welcome. Any thoughts on above?

I have a Genevieve so am obviously voting for that :)

We thought about Vivi but she has turned out to be largely Genevieve. Other nicknames are Evie, Gen, Ginny, Viv - so she will have plenty of choices when she is bigger. I'm amused by the idea of it being 'chavvy' :) - never ever heard anyone say that about it before and we were actually worried the other way, that it sounded a bit too middle-class-trying-hard-to-be-posh! However I probably would think it a bit chavvy if it was because of where the baby was conceived, and Gen is my least favourite of the nicknames :)

It's not too popular - only 90 girls named it in each of the last 4 years according to ONS stats so it's only about 400+ on the names list.

I find Arabella/Annabel too twee and girlie. We went with Genevieve because it is feminine but doesn't imply pink and ballerina-y and little girl in the way that lots of the bel/bella names do so is more versatile when she is an adult I think.

Serena is better than those, and India I like.

Nothing wrong with Hugo and a H surname because of the way that Hugo is pronounced I think, unless your surname is also pronounced in that aspirated way (e.g. Hugo Harris would be fine I think but Hugo Hughes wouldn't be)

From the girls names list, I like Arabella best by a long way followed by Annabel. Am afraid I detest the name Genevieve - I know someone who named their DD this as she was conceived in Geneva (she has also always been called Gen which I find too adult like and takes away from the actual name) - sorry but that ruined it for me...I also have this horrible image of people shouting the name in a playground or wherever in an incredibly chavvy accent..am sure people will disagree though as seems to be "in"...

I like Theo and Hugo not keen in Ellis. Do you want a short name? What is DS's name? Will help in thinking up suggestions..

Towndon · 01/11/2011 18:16

Genevieve - not keen
India - place name or 80s "exotic" name
Annabel - like, and Annabel Christina fits well
Arabella - like
Serena - like, but Serena Christina is too rhymey

Theo - like
Hugo - a bit too public schooly for me
Ellis - too surnamey but I do like Elliot (I know, also a surname!)

Oh and to complicate things we would like to give the baby the middle name Christina after my Dgma, my other dc have 3 names so this can go anywhere iyswim.
