Why do all my favourite names not go with my stupid surname?

FanjoIsMyMiddleName · 29/10/2011 09:02

Having difficulty coming up with girls names that I like to go with my surname, which is Waller.

My all time favourite names are:

Della (I particularly love this one Sad)
Molly
Heather
Esther
Hannah

I don't think that any of them go at all. Can you come up with any similar names - I think all of the above are good strong, independent, sassy names (although I know not everyone will agree with this!!) and that's the sort of thing I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance.

Seren is Se -Ren (Almost like the first part of Serenity) and means star in Welsh, its very popular in Wales at the moment and has been for a few years so I think it will be well known in England pretty soon, like Sian, Rhiannon and Ffion.

My DH has surname that sounds awful with my first name so I had to double barrel when we got married and has made naming our bumps difficult so I feel your pain.

Daisy Waller
Zoe Waller
Annabel (Annie) Waller
Louise Waller
Emily Waller
Sophie Waller

Hi

Thanks for all the suggestions! Chocoroo - very good point re: Hazel pronounced in Essex - you're completely right, sad thing is I didn't even notice I was pronouncing it in Essex until you mentioned it (I asked my OH (who isn't Essex) to say it!). Shame Sad

IloveDolly - Honey Oates Grin. Tempting to change surnames isn't it??

I like Seren a lot, but I say it differently even time I say it out loud - Se-REN or SE-ren or Seron (to rhyme with heron). Would be a bit crap to have a daughter whose name I can't say properly or with any consistency!!

"N" names seem like the way forward though - I will focus on those.

Many thanks!

Instead of Della (which I think is of German origin, and means "noble"). How about Adele, Adeline or Adelaide.

Molly means "star of the sea", Estelle also means 'star'.

Esther, is I think possibly Persian and means "star" how about Seren, which is a Welsh name meaning "star."

Instead of Heather, how about Fern (although I am not keen on this and if you want to go for a purple flower I would be more likely to for Lilac, Violet or Iris.

Hannah means "He (God) has favored me". How about Annabelle or for short Belle, as a variant of Anabel, the meaning of Annabelle is "He (God) has favored me". Or just Ann. It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Ann is "He (God) has favored me".

I also love Eden, a girl's name (also used as boy's name Eden). It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Eden is "place of pleasure". Also sometimes used as a pet form of Edith.

All the best with your lovely new baby.

Stephanie nn Steph.
Grace
Heather
I know all of these with W names

ILoveDolly · 29/10/2011 23:04

I hear your pain. My favourite names for girls were Poppy and Honey.

My surname is Oates. Honey Oates?!! Rofl. My girls have had a lucky escape.

Just forget Della - there are enough lovely suggestions here to keep you musing x

ThatsNotMyBabyBelly · 29/10/2011 23:00

Florence
Violet

frutilla · 29/10/2011 22:58

If you love Della, why not hyphenate it and have Della-Mae or Della-Jane.

frutilla · 29/10/2011 22:57

Vivienne Waller
Ashley Waller
Simone Waller
Tamsin Waller
Julianne Waller
Veronique Waller
Arianne Waller
Belinda Waller
Yvonne Waller
Suzette Waller
Samantha Waller
Corinne Waller

These sound good, people won't use the full name much apart from assembly or the doctor's surgery. And a middle name will also break it up.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/10/2011 16:50

Ofgs - I can't read!

Hermione Waller
Naomi Waller
Hester Waller

Liking Catherine too.

Kayano · 29/10/2011 16:48

I feel your pain...

My surname is Horn. It's awful for names lol

Clary · 29/10/2011 16:35

Some good ideas here - DD looking at my list said Kate sounded best!

I think you also might want to avoid s sounds - Alice Waller sounds like Ali Swaller (as in swallow?) (Oh I see you have posted exactly that OP!)

I think Jasmin Waller, Bethan Waller or maybe Imogen Waller sound fine - a name really removed from the surname.

remus it's not Walker, it's Waller, that's the problem!

pilates · 29/10/2011 16:32

Madeline
Catherine
Elizabeth
Emmeline

all sound great with your surname

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/10/2011 16:05

All of the names you've listed in your op sound fine to me, except Della Walker but that's only because it reminds me of the evil bit of the split personality woman in Steohen King's Dark Tower, whose name is Detta Walker.

Alice walker
Naomi Walker
Hester Walker
Daisy Walker
Hermione Walker
Marianne Walker

all sound fine to me.

rockboobs · 29/10/2011 11:07

Lovely meaning too, Seren. Good one Hecate

Lancelottie · 29/10/2011 11:04

Yes, names ending in N sound good.

Tamsin?
Madeleine
...or any of Hecate's, really

chocoroo · 29/10/2011 11:03

Hhhmmmm. I guess I can hear what you're saying about the names blending to make different names.

Love Seren. How about Megan? Or Josephine? Hazel's good, but how does that sound with your "slight" Essex accent?

seeker · 29/10/2011 11:00

I know a Claire Waller.

Psammead · 29/10/2011 10:58

Change your surname!

Hazel is really very lovely, though.

Felicity
Penelope
Daphne
Lucy

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 29/10/2011 09:53

listen

I think it's lovely.

FanjoIsMyMiddleName · 29/10/2011 09:53

Grin Hecate I can't possibly call her Della Waller - that would be unreasonable! I just love the name Della - if I had the right surname there would be no question as to what DD would be called!

OP posts:
HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 29/10/2011 09:51

Della Waller? dellawaller

really? Grin

FanjoIsMyMiddleName · 29/10/2011 09:50

Ooooh, Seren - how do you pronounce that? In my head it's "Serrin" which is really pretty!
