DS5 arrived yesterday at 9:54 pm (two and a half weeks early!) and with his scatty parents no where near choosing a name! After meeting him though we have narrowed it down to two combinations, both of which we love. They are -
Jeremiah Hendrix
Rudy Hendrix
(Hendrix being a middle name not our surname)
As we love them both we really want to get a wider perspective and see what others opinions are - we have already asked the midwife what her favourite is!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I also have a teen ! and tbh they drug connections ARE NOT plainly obvious to me, dunno who your kids hang out with, but I would put a stop to it !

topknob · 29/10/2011 21:15

oh roflmao @ The HOODY NAME !!! How fucking naive are you I am proper lol !

Rudi is a beautiful name for a child...ignore the stuck up knobs ! They clearly get scared by a child wearing a jumper with a hood !

my eldest son is a high school student, almost teen i was and am aware of the 'connotations' as you call them but we like the song, we liked the name, and he calls himself 'rude dude' its cute, we like it!

frutilla · 29/10/2011 20:56

Jem.

scarevola · 29/10/2011 20:52

Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't occur to me that a Rude Boy homage would be intended.

Then again, I'm posting as the mother of teen/pre-teens so the drug/criminal associations are obvious. But I shouldn't have made assumptions about whether that would be welcome or not.

4madboys · 29/10/2011 20:44

yes i am well aware of the song, its where we got the name from! we live in a city and i have met one other toddler rudi and its not been an issue at all, and i dont expect it to be.

scarevola · 29/10/2011 20:24

It is indeed listed I. Baby book as a diminutive of Rudolf.

But it's also the accepted inner city diminutive of RudeBoy, which is long standing Jamaican slang for criminator drug runner. It's meant criminal in UK since at least the 1980s (remember The Specials "Message to you Rudy" about a drug runner who would wind up in gaol?).

It really is a name to be very careful with if you think you might ever live in a big city or anywhere with a gang culture.

GarrottingItLaldy · 29/10/2011 19:23

I like them both but Jeremiah/Jem was the front runner until the similarity to Jimi was pointed out. So, for that reason, has to be Rudy.

And congratulations, by the way Smile

4madboys · 29/10/2011 19:18

a hoody name?!! maybe in america, but in the uk i think its fine, lots of people seem to think it comes from Rudolph and most baby name books list it as a derivitive of that.

cece · 29/10/2011 16:23

Jeremiah

comedaygoday · 29/10/2011 16:21

Jeremiah

scarevola · 29/10/2011 16:00

Jem (from Jeremiah).

Rudy is a hoodie name round here; be cautious.

MrsJWelsh · 29/10/2011 15:57

I like Rudy best, but as others have said, why not use both?
Rudy Jeremiah Hendrix surname? Congratulations by the way! X

rockboobs · 29/10/2011 07:48

aaaaw Congrats.

Rudy all the way, yay!

Kayzr · 29/10/2011 07:46

Rudy. It's very nice and goes well with Hendrix

pARGHssTheTwiglets · 29/10/2011 07:45

LOVE Jem but Jeremiah Hendrix is waaaaay too similar-sounding to Jimi Hendrix and I'd hate to saddle a kid with that. Congratulations!

Or, another thought - why not use both?! Nothing to say that a kid can't have more than one middle name...

RickGhastley · 29/10/2011 07:40

Jeremiah/ Jem is great and works well at all ages.

Not sure I could take a Rudy seriously, sounds like a nickname and too much like rude!

stripeybumpinthenight · 29/10/2011 00:10

Congratulations! Thanks Bear Wine

Rudy is my fave.

StarryEyedMama · 29/10/2011 00:09

Pref Hendrix as first name but if not, Rudy!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/10/2011 00:07

Jem Jem Jem Jem

Congratulations btw. :)

freerangeeggs · 29/10/2011 00:04

I like Rudy, but Jem is a really cool nickname for Jeremiah and might sway me...

BibiBelle · 28/10/2011 22:40

Rudy

upatdawn · 28/10/2011 22:32

ooh, congratulations!

Am loving the name Hendrix - could that be promoted to first name? If not then Rudy Hendrix is pretty fab!

Enjoy your little man :)

Apricots · 28/10/2011 21:42

Rudy definitely

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 28/10/2011 21:34

Many congratulations.

Rudy gets my vote, it is a fab name.
