I can't use Daphne can I?

DP has suggested Daphne for a girl. I love it but DS1 is Freddie. Too many people have seen Scooby Doo haven't they?

Would we be able to get away with having Freddie and Daphne?

I ddint amke the connection with Scooby Doo - but did think Eggheads !! (sorry, how sad am I??!!)
Dont personally like the name at all... sorry...

Montsti · 04/11/2011 08:08

I didn't make the Scooby Doo connection but am afraid don't like the name Daphne at all. Makes me think of a middle-aged/OAP woman...sorry but just my association. I also don't think it goes well with Freddie either despite Scooby Doo...

I have a baby Daphne, I love it and absolutely no regrets!! It's a classy, classic name with many lovely connotations other than the abovementioned. Freddie and Daphne are not obviously connected, only a few in the know might twig, but hey! I considered Delphine and think it can be lovely if said with the right voice, but can also hear it with a deep south twang.

ilianora · 27/10/2011 13:54

I think thats a pretty cool connection! Kids will probably love it, and when they are adults people will name them together less frequently. x

Kayzr · 27/10/2011 13:37

I still couldn't name her something that to me personally wouldn't suit her until she was 80.

I think I might give up for know until we know what we are having. Its far too confusing.

She'll only be a little baby for a few months! Don't think about naming a baby- think about naming an adult woman.

Kayzr · 27/10/2011 11:53

Edith screams little old lady at me not little baby for some reason.

Just checked withn10 year old ds. He said Scooby Doo straight away, and he's not a massive Scooby fan. So, sorry, I don't think you can.

How about Edith?

PrincessScrumpy · 27/10/2011 11:48

I thought scooby doo when I saw Daphne, but still love the name - actually it's my Granny's name but she's the only one I've met.

Clawdy · 27/10/2011 10:52

Daphne always sounds rather middle-aged to me.

HerdOfTinyElephants · 26/10/2011 18:35

And in Neighbours Daphne was the stripper from Des's stag night before he was jilted who moved in as his lodger and ended up marrying him. She famously gave birth to their baby without even taking her tights off but died following a car accident shortly afterwards.

All this was back in the proper days of Neighbours back when Scott and Charlene were in it, mind.

chipmonkey · 26/10/2011 15:29

Daphne was Niles' love interest in Frasier.

Kayzr · 26/10/2011 14:55

I don't get the neighbours or Frasier connection.

OP posts:
Lonnie · 26/10/2011 14:53

I made no connection In fact I thought you were going to say I cant use it as I have a Frasier

lolajane2009 · 26/10/2011 13:11

I am thining Neighbours or Frasier tbh.

Kayzr · 26/10/2011 09:14

I like Dulcie but DP said no! I do have another thread with a long list of girls names somewhere Grin

largeginandtonic · 26/10/2011 09:11

Oh Dolly! Call her Dolly. I love it. I had Dulcie on the list for dd2, she would have been nn Dolly.

Aphra good too.

Incase it is twins you need a Herbert and Bunty. No exceptions. Ok?

chipmonkey · 25/10/2011 23:27

Your boys are gorgeous, by the way!

Miette · 25/10/2011 20:22

I prefer Velma

BibiBelle · 25/10/2011 20:16

A friend of mine from school was called Dolina but known as either Dolly or Donna - too twee?

HerdOfTinyElephants · 25/10/2011 17:31

The connection does occur to me straight away, but it's still a lovely name and I think could well be on its way back.

nickelbabe · 25/10/2011 17:20

I didn't make the connection till you pointed it out.

If yo ulike the name use it!

wigglesrock · 25/10/2011 17:19

Kayzr I named dd2 after a cartoon pig Grin, but according to most on MN baby names its a shockingly unoriginal name anyway Grin.

BibiBelle · 25/10/2011 17:11

Kayz I mainly stick to my Antenatal thread. I've only recently started dipping my toes in the Baby Names threads again Grin

Girls names are soooooooooooooooo easy, the only difficulty is the choice!

I think Delphine is beautiful and much less association attached than Scooby Doo, The Broons, Neighbours & the daft lass in Frasier GrinWink

Kayzr · 25/10/2011 16:48

No Delphine makes me think of the donkey in Peppa Pig. I don't want to name her after a donkey.
