OK, final name thread! One of us will be disappointed, who should it be?

We have two name choices. Neither one of us is happy about the other's choice. We have been through every name we can think of and, without a word of a lie, there is not one single name in the entire world that we agree on, believe me, we've tried and it's beginning to grind us down. We've just got totally different taste in names. So we've accepted that one of us will have to get used to a name we're not wild about.

Anyone else in the same position, what did you do? Is it possible to live with a name that's just ok and not The Name?

OK - so what does DH like?

It is impossible for you to have been through all of the names in the world Grin

Is she here yet or still incubating? If she's not here yet I'd wait until she arrives - something might just click in place.

no help at all but I'm with sandstorm - my friend Verity is always just Verity. Maybe you should try and make up a name together - then when one of you gets seriously irritated by that process you will cave in and agree on one!!

rockboobs · 20/10/2011 14:08

Wait til she pops out and see what she looks like, you don't have to decide just yet. She might end up looking like a different name entirely Smile

SandStorm · 20/10/2011 14:05

This won't really help but the only Verity I knew was always Verity. I never heard it shortened in all the time I knew her.

twogirls1more · 20/10/2011 14:02

I have to agree with some of above and sounds like you and your DH are both just too stubborn!..(sorry!) There must be a way you could both write a shortlist of names that you'd be prepared to compromise on as adults surely. Sounds like you have your heart set on Verity and him on his one and only choice and both of you are digging your heels in! I agree it can be difficult..my DH and I didn't agree..(he had his heart set on naming our son after his Dad and I didn't like it so I went thru 100 books and came back with a list of about 30 names I'd be ok with.) He dug heels in and said no to all!..(ntmare!) In the end, a friend of his suggested a v unusual name that he'd have called his son had he had one and DH took an instant shine to it! Have to say I've had to give it some serious thought and wasn't keen at first but it's grown on me..(lucky for him!) so that's now what we're going with!...Phew!! (Will however give him the quick reminder if needed in the future that he had HIS way on that one and NEVER let it be said that he's under the thumb or I wear the trousers lol!) :)

Vita? Vitty?

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 20/10/2011 13:34

OK, well my absolute total favourite name in the entire universe is Verity. He thinks it's harsh and sounds like a battery Hmm (he's weird, I imagine he's thinking of Varta batteries rather than Duracell...) One of his main objections, funnily enough, is that there is no nickname for it. You'd help my case a lot if you could think of one that isn't Very or Verits (which sets my teeth on edge) :o

Right, post some of your nice strong names and we'll think of some frilly nicknames for you!

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 20/10/2011 13:20

Oh, I thought you might all say that. There isn't another name, really, we have spent months on this! He likes pretty florally girly names and I like nice strong names. How the hell we agreed on DD1's name so easily is beyond me!

I knew I should never have married him... Hmm :o

It is possible to get used to a " not the name" name but if you are in the above situation I would find a "not the name" name for both of you aka a name you both kinda like but neither feel is " the name"

none of my children have my 2 favourite names as dh hated them

scarlettlips · 20/10/2011 13:12

Pick a new name....neither of you should be disappointed!!!

But use the other 2 as middle names..then at least you both still get those names.

tammytoby · 20/10/2011 13:10

I agree - there must be a name you both like (if not love)!

SoupDragon · 20/10/2011 13:07

Post the names!

FoxyRevenger · 20/10/2011 13:07

Hmm well I think if one of you will be unhappy then you'll have to go back to the drawing board. Sorry! There will be one in all of the millions of names in the world that you can both get on with - there must be.
