OK, final name thread! One of us will be disappointed, who should it be?

We have two name choices. Neither one of us is happy about the other's choice. We have been through every name we can think of and, without a word of a lie, there is not one single name in the entire world that we agree on, believe me, we've tried and it's beginning to grind us down. We've just got totally different taste in names. So we've accepted that one of us will have to get used to a name we're not wild about.

Anyone else in the same position, what did you do? Is it possible to live with a name that's just ok and not The Name?

What is her name?

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 12:49

Aw :(

In further discussions he agreed that I would be more upset by not having a name I liked than he would. He also agreed that he'd got used to Verity. He's toddled off now to think of a middle name because Verity as a first name has freed up a middle name space and he has free rein with that.

TBH, even if, in a couple of weeks I raise the subject again it will have given him a chance to think of her as Verity which might make all the difference. If he says at that point that he's not happy with it then we'll probably go with Madeleine. But using the name for that little while might push him one way or another. We'll see.

Tyra?

That was my choice :(

Tyra, Leila or Natalia.... But 'nooooooo' says dp Angry

I kind of understood when it was Desiree I wanted but I moved past that....

Tyra is a good strong name btw, it's a derivitive (sp) of Thor so means god of battle.

I'm going to cry Grin

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 11:56

Yay sounds like he is up for verity! Ps I have a Jennifer, it is a fab name too, but verity and Vivienne are nicer with harriet

DigOfTheStump · 22/10/2011 11:54

Oh Vivienne is ver nice sorry, nicer than verity

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 11:54

Right, I've done what DH calls, my judicial summing up! Having probed him he actually can't think of any objections to Verity.

He likes Julia but doesn't like the old lady associations. But he prefers Verity to Julia. That means he doesn't dislike Verity. And Jennifer which we both like and I thought was a possibility, is his second favourite behind Verity and after Julia.

So, women of the jury, I put it to you that actually, his only objection to Verity is Just Because and when I did my and said right, that's it, pissed off now, had enough of this, Verity it is, he laughed and said ok. Does that sound to you like someone with a real problem with the name?

I should point out that the only person who ever mentions Verity in our RL negotiations is him. I stopped including it when he originally said he didn't like it and so I haven't been harping on about it at all.

Vivien or Valerie, if you like V names? Victoria? Too frilly?

Madison instead of Madeleine? Very popular in the US I know but not used so much over here as far as I know.

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 11:37

We're reading the credits of Shrek now and tbh, Shrek is the only likely looking name!

DH says the UN couldn't help our negotiations!

Penny is a very close family member's name.

OP posts:
DigOfTheStump · 22/10/2011 11:32

Penelope ( penny) is nice with Harriet.

Or erica, or Juliet.

What about Juliet, or Juliana?

I have to admit I loathe the name Verity, and chances are she'd be a compulsive liar! Sorry.

I did think maybe Valeria, more flowery, good meaning, but you might not like the nn Val.

I really like Lydia - no go for you? Laetitia then?

Sylvie? (much prettier than Sylvia for some reason)

Katrina rather than Kate - but you could still call her Kate or any of the other nns, including Nina (I knew a Katrina who was nn Nina).

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 11:17

I've told him that and pointed out that the 'old lady name' is number 77 in the charts and actually more popular than DD1's name.

OP posts:
MelinaM · 22/10/2011 11:12

Carla Bruni & Sarkosy have just named their new DD Giulia ...albeit the Italian form... if that helps you DH and his old lady associations any?!

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 10:08

And his choices aren't frilly because I weeded out all the Poppys and Daisys and Lilys because there's no point including them, they're not going to happen! :)

SazZaVoom · 22/10/2011 10:02

Natasha
Nina

Julia is ready for a comeback, Joanna isn't. Too many people my age called Joanna.

Emily way too common. Want to avoid the really popular ones.

OP posts:
Ephiny · 22/10/2011 09:57

I think Emily is nice actually, not too frilly and a stronger sound than Emilia/Amelia.

What about Amity? Romilly?

I can see his point about Julia, it does sound a bit old-fashioned/middle-aged to me. But it's a lovely name in itself, and names do come back around into fashion!

ragged · 22/10/2011 09:55

I mean, how can you find Julia all you want but Joanna not? They are so very similar, no?

ragged · 22/10/2011 09:54

Personally I don't think any of his choices are frilly or wimpy.
Well... maybe Libby. Joanna is great, though.

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 09:40

come up with....

OP posts:
GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 09:39
