Unusual Boys Names

Hi all,
Pregnant with DC2, got my 20 week scan in 3 weeks and we're hoping to find out what it is but i'd like to have a shortlist of names.
I think we've decided (for now at least) on Delilah Mei for a girl (Mei spelt that way as a nod to one of my favourite films, not a bid to be 'interesting') but really stuck for boys, plus DH and I just can't agree. We have Dexter so it needs to go with that, only other criteria is that it should be unusual but not really weird.

Can anyone inspire me?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Loving Sennen mommom, one of my favourite places in the UK, so will be adding that to my shortlist, hope you don't mind!

I have a Fraser.
I live in the Highlands though, so it's not that unusual, though according to my English SIL who runs a playgroup it's never used down south.

mommom · 17/10/2011 14:03

My DS is called Sennen James, and i am now 35wks with my second boy and have had similar problems. However DH and I have finally agreed on Reagan Scott.

Finding THE name is such a minefield. I must admit that i did have a lot of (unwelcome) input from the mother in law. (DH comes from a family of brians, Sams and steves- oh and sons named after fathers which I HATE!)

some suggestions i had were

Finlay
Ely
Drew
Elijah
Roman

But is also happens to be the plural of the most widely used measurment of distance in the UK/US. One mile, two miles. But perhaps some of you don't make that mental association, I do though.

Actually that should be Thornton Blush

countingto10 · 17/10/2011 13:49

I have a Jonathan (shortened to Jonny) and a Dominic which wasn't very popular 9 years ago (only one in his school) but appears to be getting more popular now. I always liked the name Gabriel (vetoed by DH) and he liked Damien (vetoed by me Grin). Had 4DSs and as I started with a fairly traditional name for DS1, couldn't go too "way out" with the others.

In a local gaveyard, there is the grave of a little boy who died in the late 19th century and he was called Thorton - always thought it was a lovely name.

TheLittleFriend · 17/10/2011 13:45

Love Arlo, it's a great name.

Another favourite of mine is Jude.

laughalot · 17/10/2011 13:41

sorry excuse spelling

AblativeAbsolute · 17/10/2011 13:41

Oops, sorry melliebobs, didn't mean to offend. It's just that I'm hearing it around a bit more recently, and just wondered... Sorry Blush.

laughalot · 17/10/2011 13:41

Matana that is realy strange as I have a Aidan but really watned Ellis and dh said no to that hee hee

SuperSesame · 17/10/2011 13:39

I know three Ethan's born in the last year. Its definitely not unusual if it once was. I forgot about the Minogue baby. I thought it was because Ethan Hawke was a pin-up in the 90's so all of those teen girls are now naming their babies after him!
I have an Ivan and love it.

matana · 17/10/2011 13:39

Love the name Aidan, but DH vetoed it. We therefore have an Ellis. Middle name is Spencer.

melliebobs · 17/10/2011 13:36

our choice in Dexter has NOTHING to do with One Day. In fact reading the book on my honeymoon almost made me go off it for 2 reasons. Dexter was an absolute pecker AND i really don't like the shortening of it to Dex. GRRR

enjoyingscience · 17/10/2011 13:32

Jonas (biased, but I love it)
Elias
Jethro
Silas
Theo (not unusual, I know)
Ivo
Finbar

RedRubyBlue · 17/10/2011 13:31

Murray

RedRubyBlue · 17/10/2011 13:31

Cedric
Albert
Guy
Hector
Hamish
Fraser
Sebastion

gobbolinothewitchscatinboots · 17/10/2011 13:21

We've got a Hugo which is quite unusual I think (around here anyway)

I love Fergus if I ever have another DS

AblativeAbsolute · 17/10/2011 13:18

I really wanted Atticus for DS, Scallops, but DH vetoed it. Lovely name.

AblativeAbsolute · 17/10/2011 13:17

Is this surge of Dexters to do with One Day, I wonder?
Anyway, OP, a couple of others - a friend's boy is called Felix, and I really like that. Or, as others have said, you could go for a traditional name that's just less popular these days - like Jonathan or Paul (also good in that they go well with most other names). I love your suggestion of Dominic, too - we nearly chose that for DS.

laughalot · 17/10/2011 13:17

forgot seth

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 17/10/2011 13:11

shoobidoo · 17/10/2011 12:40
