What do you think?
These are my current dream land twins.
They are on my list for dc5, and not sure dh will go for dc 6, so maybe twins.
I like nn Gertie and Gussie, but there is also the options of Trudy and Aggie.

ooh, Beryl is a lovely name imo.

shoobidoo · 17/10/2011 13:03

Bridget - just because the op hasn't suggested Ellie, Millie, Sophie or any other 'mumsnet' approved name...Hmm.

Have you read the recent thread about having 4 or 5 (or even 6) kids with the same name in class - I think we should be ENCOURAGING more name diversity!

Just because some of still associate 'old ladies' with these names, these perceptions will soon change as younger people have these names. I think the OP is just ahead of the curve Smile.

BridgetBust · 17/10/2011 12:46

Mildred? Beryl? You don't need twins - you need a psych consult!

shoobidoo · 17/10/2011 12:41

Love Augusta.

tummytickler · 17/10/2011 10:21

Not Aggie for a boy Allboxedin , Augusta is a girls name, so Aggie would be for a girl! I prefer Gussie any way!
I am trying to avoid granny chic, I think, although a lot of names I like seem to be that style (Mildred, Beryl etc), so we will see!
I still need twins I think, as I really love them both! Or a boy, as we only agree on one boys name!

I quite like both names, especially Augusta. It sounds elegant, feminine and works well in most European languages. I think Aggie is a lovely nickname Smile.

I'm less keen on Gertrude but I can see its 'granny chic' appeal and Gertie is quite cute.

Allboxedin · 16/10/2011 19:27

Aggie for a boy? Confused Sorry I agree with Bridget, they are both yuk! Sorry OP!

BridgetBust · 16/10/2011 02:51

They're underused because they're bloody awful!

Trust me, the boys in the playground would call poor Augusta "Gus".

tammytoby · 15/10/2011 22:20

Why on earth would you shorten Augusta to Gus..?! Augusta rolls off the tongue easily enough, otherwise Aggie is very cute imo.

Same with Gertrude, surely you'd shorten to Gertie or Trudie (not Gert, which is a boys name).

I think both are lovely, underused names. You're just a few years ahead of the curve Smile.

BridgetBust · 15/10/2011 21:07

Gert and Gus.

Bloody awful. And don't believe anyone who tells you different.

winkle2 · 15/10/2011 11:10

Horrid. Sorry.

scaevola · 15/10/2011 10:38

I think Augusta is a fabulous name (despite Fink-Nottle!)

Not so keen on Gertrude though - sounds rather bovine to me.

tummytickler · 15/10/2011 10:36

tryingtoleave I don't mind the newt lover connection, Gussie Fink-Nottle was a chap anyway. And newts aren't so bad Grin

Ugly, especially together.

And gussie will always be a newt lover to me.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 14/10/2011 22:59

My Aunt (she's 75 now) is officially a Gertrude and absolutely hates it. I've never heard her called by it, she used Gerda, and she really resented the fact that her sisters had what she deemed much more normal names. It's an old family name on the German side of my family. I'm not expecting that one to be revived ever.

Rhubarbgarden · 14/10/2011 22:55

I really like both.

Rollon2012 · 14/10/2011 22:42

Gertrude?? no dont do that to your child

Allboxedin · 14/10/2011 21:35

Gertrude - just no, my brother used to call me that to take the mick. It sounds like something from 1900. Augusta I am not keen on either.

ShroudOfHamsters · 14/10/2011 20:14

Oh sorry I read too quick and thought you were definitely on for twins!

Of the two, Augusta, with Aggie for short. Lovely.

tammytoby · 14/10/2011 20:09

I love Augusta - feminine, classic and sounds great in most (European) languages. And not overused.

Gertrude is nice too, and Gertie a cute nickname, although the name is less fashionable at the moment (I bet it will be in 10-15 years though).

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/10/2011 18:22

Augusta was on our list for DD and she is neither fat or ugly. [biased emoticon].

thisisyesterday · 14/10/2011 18:19

i LOVE augusta!

mathanxiety · 14/10/2011 18:16

Gertrud nicer than Gertrude imo. I think it might join Agatha and Agnes as sort of hip names. I would choose Gertrud and Agatha as cool-ironic names for a set of twins.

Augusta just makes me think of flatulence for some reason.

vixsatis · 14/10/2011 18:16

Just no

titan · 14/10/2011 18:16

I like Augusta but think it should only be for babies born in August. If your DH allows you to carry on procreating and you get to DC8 you would also be legitimately allowed Octavia which I love Grin
