Only theoretical at this point but have dd called evie and currently in love with the name Adam. I already know what you will all say but is there a chance this could be ok....?

No, it would make me laugh.

FlipFantasia · 20/10/2011 19:43

No way. Evie is effectively the same name as Eve as it's just the diminutive.

The weirdest thing for me is that Adam and Eve were a couple, the first couple, so for a sibling set there's such a creepy incestuous vibe to the name pairing. I'd find a couple who met as adults, fell for each other, etc quite easy to understand but a sibling set - urrgh!

I do think that siblings have their own lives and are independent people and all that but I mean really, having to always explain that yes, your parents did name your brother Adam and yes, they had heard of the bible, would be a right pain.

If you like Old Testament names there are loads of lovely boys names to be found (Caleb, Ezekiel nn Zeke, Jacob, Zachary, Jonah etc). If you like the sound of Adam then something like Aidan works really well.

Adam and Eve and Pinch-me
Went down to the river to bathe;
Adam and Eve were drowned.
Who d'you think was saved?

ChippingInToThePumpkinLantern · 20/10/2011 15:50

No, just NO.

Kids have enough to cope with in life without this!

PatsyStone · 20/10/2011 15:46

I agree with Diary but then my two have names which make a "pair" iykwim. We sweated over whether or not to do it until very late into my pregnancy and then just thought "sod it", we like the names so really we don't care what anyone else thinks. The children have had no trouble from other children about it, and hardly anyone has commented on it, although I will admit to occasionally feeling a bit of a tit when I have to call them both over in public, but then I just flip the names round as you suggested earlier so it doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Wink

DejaWho · 20/10/2011 10:27

My mum was going to do it (as middle names only - I got Eve as the first daughter, and after a grandmother Eva) but there was already an Adam in the family. First names - noooooooo!

Clandy · 19/10/2011 21:31

Good points diary I like your thinking Grin the more I think the more I think it could work....

OP posts:
GooseyLoosey · 18/10/2011 10:05

You can't do it.

Aidan is nice though.

DiaryofaSleepDeprivedMum · 18/10/2011 10:02

OK, I'm going to buck the trend here. I love both Adam and Evie. They won't be forever joined at the hip. They will be individuals, have their own identities and will lead their own lives, so why not?! If nothing else, they will have a sense of humour imposed upon them!

Clandy · 17/10/2011 19:38

Thanks for the suggestions luckily I have a long time to go until I have to pick a name Smile and I sure I will be back on here to check opinions Grin

Oh no no no!

Aidan, so near and thankfully far enough :)

NinkyNonker · 15/10/2011 21:13

I wouldn't, sorry. I liked Eve for dd, but DH is Adam so it was a no go!

NotJustKangaskhan · 14/10/2011 22:57

Evie and...(not quite Adam)

Adrian
Abram
Elam
Hallam
Jotham
Admiel (comes from the same root word as Adam, but few people will be geeky enough to know that)

BikeRunSki · 14/10/2011 20:33

I posted almost exactly the same as OP a few months ago, except in our case it is DH that is Adam and potential girl's name was Evelyn (my granny).

But the MN jury said no to that too.
Actually DH said no Evelyn anyway.

Just wish she'd get on with it and appear (38.3 and fed up).

Names like Adam -
Alex
Alec
Alan
Nathan/Nate ?
Andrew ?
James ?

MonsterBookOfHorrors · 14/10/2011 20:25

Archie. I always suggest Archie for any name.
But also
Alex,
Andrew nn Andy,
Alistair
Aidan

Psammead · 14/10/2011 20:18

Aaron
Allan (although Allan and Evie sounds like a bad tribute band tbh)
Ewan

Timo
Milo

Jacob
Joseph
Elias

Good luck!

Clandy · 14/10/2011 19:33

CaptainMartinCrieff · 14/10/2011 16:56

starsandstripes · 14/10/2011 16:53

noooooooooooooooooooooo!
[hsmile]

Both nice names individually can you use Evie as a middle name? How about
Ellie
