Rufus is super cool.

Gordon is an old blokes name. ( like late FIL who was a total DV bastard - don't call him that - shudders!)

Mrsdp123 · 30/09/2011 11:54

I know a baby Rufus, a baby Ronnie and an adult Rufus whose son is called Barnaby....I don't know a Gordon but makes me think of Scotland.
I like Felix for my next one due in 4 days but DH is having none of it, although he keep saying "if you like it then use it". Whereas I think really it should be a name you both like...(mind you we are choosing between Digby and Wilbur so what do we know)!

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 30/09/2011 04:19

I'm afraid I think it's truly horrible.

lurkinginthebackground · 30/09/2011 00:18

I always think Shakka Chan (SP?).

susiedaisy · 28/09/2011 10:51

Our friends had a springer spaniel called Barnaby, barney for short, he was lovelySmile,

minipie · 28/09/2011 10:43

Rufus is a great name. Barnaby is nice but not keen on Barny (too cutesy) and no other obvious nns. Rupert is ok. Ronald and Gordon are awful IMO.

What about Robert? Quite unusual these days!

susiedaisy · 28/09/2011 09:25

It must depend on how old a person is because as soon as you say Rupert to anyone of my age (early forties) they immediately think of Rupert the bear programmed from the seventiesSmile which was a great seriesGrin

henryhsmum · 28/09/2011 09:15

My cat is called Rufus but to be honest I wouldn't use it for a child. I do quite like Rupert as an alternative?

emmyloo2 · 28/09/2011 07:19

LOVE it. Also love Barnaby though as well. I love the Felix, Barnaby, Rufus, Rupert, Jasper type names.

My DS is George. My DH is more conservative than me but I am hoping if we have anothert DS we go for something a little more crazy. Not that I don't love George mind you....he just prefers the Thomas type names which I find dull.

Nikki82 · 28/09/2011 00:06

I know a Rufus he is 2 and absolutely gorgeous.. It's a great name! Also love Gordon, Ronnie and Rupert. Less keen on barnaby but sounds good as a middle name especially following Rufus.

Jacanne · 27/09/2011 22:47

I love Rufus. If dd3 had been a boy she would have been Rufus.

serin · 27/09/2011 22:25

Rufus Robin?

serin · 27/09/2011 22:24

My first thought was bushchat here
But that's just me.......

PanicMode · 27/09/2011 21:39

I have a Rufus, and it suits him to a T. I also had Barnaby, Jasper and Felix on the shortlist. All my friends with dogs (mostly black labs/gun dogs) are called things like Treacle, Bunty, Will, Crackers, Smokey - I don't know any Jaspers/Rufus/Felix dogs!

Catsycat · 23/09/2011 21:31

I also think dog when I hear the name (like I think cat when I hear Felix or Jasper). I did go to school with a Rufus (not a redhead) and am not aware of any adverse reactions to the name, though people did think it was unusual.

AgathaTrunchbull · 23/09/2011 20:43

Appropriate if he's likely to have red hair...

mopsyflopsy · 23/09/2011 13:52

I too know a dog called Rufus, but that doesn't mean people can't use it, does it? Personally I much prefer Rupert or Barnaby. Also like Quentin (we have one, so am slightly biased Smile) and Gregor as mentioned above.

evamummy · 23/09/2011 12:32

I prefer Rupert over Rufus. I also like Gordon, nickname Gordy. Actually Rufus might become Roofy - maybe not so good?

How about Felix, Quentin, Thaddeus - they all have a similar feel imo.

LetThereBeRock · 23/09/2011 12:06

I love Gordon.

Sidge · 23/09/2011 12:02

My colleague's son is Rufus. Suits him to a tee. Great name.

Also like Tobias, Gregory, Sebastian. Really don't like Gordon or Ronald.

Penelope is OK but 99% of people will assume it's shortened to Penny.

Constance? Prudence?

LetThereBeRock · 23/09/2011 12:01

Rufus is a fantastic name. Ronnie isn't,and Barnaby is dreadful.

Love love love Rufus. Also love Barnaby but Rufus the best by far.

greenzebra · 23/09/2011 10:48

Nelle could be a nn for Penelope

bohobaby · 23/09/2011 10:25

Are there any other NN instead of Penny for Penelope, that is my only concern, not all that keen or Penny
