Sorry tammytoby I don't think Zebedee is a lovely name. I think it's somewhat ridiculous. It's a red ball with a black moustache and a spring, let's face it (and yes, I do know there's one in the Bible).

Zachary is OK, it's Zack, like Jake and Luke - there are lots around and peopel won't make this Hmm face at it.

Hope88 · 22/09/2011 16:48

Iona Catherine

dearheart · 22/09/2011 16:28

All your boy names would be greeted with a fixed smile from me. I like your girls names though.

Voidka · 22/09/2011 16:11

I cant believe how many of you like Zebedee.

I like your girls list.

pilates · 22/09/2011 16:08

Sorry Zebedee is awful.

lchodge · 22/09/2011 15:44

Can't believe your all being serious about Zebedee!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 22/09/2011 13:28

Yes, it is an ancient greek name, but has been used in Italy for centuries. Saint Zeno is especially celebrated in Verona.

Catsycat · 22/09/2011 13:28

tammy, I am with you on the Greek thing, and your comment about deriving names form other cultures. Zeno is most definitely a name, it just isn't well known.

tammytoby · 22/09/2011 13:19

I thought Zeno is derived from Greek. Zeno was the name of two famous Greek philosophers: Zeno of Elea and Zeno of Citium, the founder of the Stoic school in Athens.

But I guess it does sound a little Italian too.

Lots and lots of names we use in Britain are derived from different cultures. I think that is actually lovely and increases name variety.

LaBag · 22/09/2011 12:40

I hope you have a girl (like all their names)

titan · 22/09/2011 12:38

Love the girl's names, especially Ida. All the Z names sound a bit silly. James and Andrew are nice. What about Ziggy?

telsa · 22/09/2011 12:34

Love your Z names - Zeno is my favourite, then Zebedee James. Zeno Eddy is best all round.
Girls - Iona Mary or Ida Mary for me.

EightiesChick · 22/09/2011 12:18

Iona Mary and Iona Catherine both lovely. Not keen on the first names you have picked for boys, but Andrew is a nice change as a middle name.

phlossie · 22/09/2011 12:12

My DS is OBSESSED with the name Rocco! He really wants us to call the baby I'm expecting Rocco... I don't dislike it, it's just not for us!

Francagoestohollywood · 22/09/2011 12:10

Grin... It is better than Rocco, imho Grin

seeker · 22/09/2011 11:59

Well, so long a the baby is an old Italian......

Tewkespeggy · 22/09/2011 11:58

tammyboy i agree , but all of those names are teaseworthy. having said that i suppose its charater building. DD is at school with a boy called Ace!

Francagoestohollywood · 22/09/2011 11:57

Zeno is an old Italian name Seeker. There is also a famous early XX Italian novel with the name Zeno in the title.

Francagoestohollywood · 22/09/2011 11:56

Zeno is a beautiful name.
I also like Iona, Ida and Ines.

Have no idea re the second names, I am not used to using 2nd names.

seeker · 22/09/2011 11:52

You can't, Unser any circumstances, call a boy Zephyr. Zebedee is bad enough, but Zepyh is ghastly. And Zeno is not even a name.

Why would you call a girl a nice name that won't dominate her life, but a boy something he will have to explain every single timenhe tells his name for the rest of his life?

MediumOrchid · 22/09/2011 11:51

I think Zebedee is the best of your boys names - I can't say I really like it but that it probably down to the magic roundabout and this generation of children probably won't know about it. Andrew and James equally nice as middle names. Zephyr and Zeno I don't associate as being names I'm afraid.

Both Ida and Iona are lovely, I prefer Catherine as a middle name.

tammytoby · 22/09/2011 11:45

Really, is Zebedee THAT different than Zachary, Sebastian or Ezekiel?

I don't think so personally and I can't see what would be teaseworthy about it. There are far more teasworthy names out there imo (e.g. Willy, Gay-briel etc.)

Tewkespeggy · 22/09/2011 11:19

i also think it depends on the area in where you live. round by me Zebedee would get highly bullied for a name like that. isnt Zephyr a wind?

He's gotta walk around with it the rest of his life... poor boy!

tammytoby · 22/09/2011 11:01

"Zebedee is acceptable as long as you never call him his full name!"

Why would you give your child a (lovely) name only to 'never use it' Confused

tammytoby · 22/09/2011 11:01

Zebedee is great - lovely, cool and underused. And Zeb is a cute nickname for when he's smaller (I find it much nicer than Seb, which reminds me of sebacious = oily).

For a girl, I'd choose Iona.
