Jared, would be my choice. My oldest son is Jareth so like Jared.

Really dislike Gabriel and detest the nn Gabe even more so would say Jared. Gabriel is just to close to Gabrielle for me, sounds very feminine.

REMUS DH likes Oren/Orin which I like too but we seem to pronounce it differently at the mo. I'm just trying him out with Soloman and Simeon too :)

What comments do you need to get used to about Gabriel? I have one and never a single comment - apart from "he's so well named" Grin (he has blond curls & dimples)

I love them both, but would probably go for Jared as there is potentially less scope for teasing.

Maybe though you should go back to the drawing board and choose one you both like. I know you didn't ask for alternatives, but how about something else shortish and biblical eg. Caleb, Noah? Or if you want to explore the pretty sounding archangel route, how about Raphael? Raff might be a cool nn to have!

I love Gabriel, it's the name of my DS2. You do need to get used to comments from people though. Jared is lovely too.

Gabriel beautiful - i have used as a middle name - more middle of road now
Jared more edgy - gorgeous for a young man - i would use as first name

What does dh like other than Jared? I think you'll have to go back to the drawing board and find a compromise name to be fair. Better a name that both of you like than a name thatone of you loves and the other doesn't imho.

Thanks everyone. I totally love the name Gabriel and DH likes Jared but all the people I have mentioned it to think its awful Confused. Dont know if I can name my baby a name that his family does not like. BUT it is the only name I actually love!!! Dilemma Sad

Gabriel is just so flouncy and feminine. I can't get my head around it as a boys name, I hear Gabrielle.

Sorry jocie I don't dislike the name Jared as such (I am always careful as I have seen so many posts saying "how could anyone call a child [DD's name]" Sad)

I was just not so keen on the Jared I knew, which I agree is no reason for anyone else to dislike it (except maybe the other staff at the school Smile)

am a bit Sad at all the dislikes of ds2 name! I think its lovely and unusual without being pretentious. I haven't come across another Jared yet (sw england).

I really like both. We do have a Prince Jared in Playmoland though, so I suppose that might swing it.......
