I really liked the name Lola, but me being older it was too connected to 1. being a showgirl and 2. being the woman who walked like a man.....transvestite (was it a Kinks song, can't remember?) Lo - lo lo lola......

It is a beautiful name, but have been put off as I know 3 pets called Lola (including one of our cats who came from the rescue centre already named).

My 8 week old niece is a Lola Mae (Mae as the mn, it's not a hyphenated first name). I wasn't fond at first but she's beautiful and therefore I now also think that the name is. People will be the same of your DD no matter whether you call her Lola or Sneaky Wink.

Yes, it is dated, sorry. In the same way that Anything Mae, Grace or Rose is dated. Amelie is another one. Hundreds of little girls aged between 0 and 8 but none over that age. But then my middle name is Louise which was the Grace/Mae/Rose of my generation, and my name (Katherine) would have sounded dated to someone naming a child in the late 80s.

I have a Lola. There aren't that many round here (I'm pretty sure she's the only one just starting reception in her school) and when I tell people her name they often remark on it being unusual! Confused

Op if you like it go for it. A thread on here recently said my DD2's name is very popular, I've never met another one, of any age. The only one's i'm aware of are minor celebs dc or other mntters dc.

I think it dated in that i'd expect a Lola to be between 5 and 10. That's seems to be when the name was really in vogue. But i'm sure there still loads of little baby Lola's. It won't fall out of fashion so quick but I think in 30 years it'll be a name like Karen i.e. that will place your year of birth to a certain decade or so.

Does it sound dated?? I think Karen and Susan sound dated, not Lola?

I don't personally know of any Lola's so am genuinely interested, not being shirty.

I don't do cutesy middle names so that's not an issue for us. I agree the Grace/Rose/May midde names are already dated.

I think that's my problem, I worry too much. I love the name Lola but it's other opinions that have made me doubt it. Although it's too late now!

If you want other boys ideas, I have a Joseph and a Gabriel.

Thanks WTWTW I do still love Lola and I have put it back on the table... I compromised with DD1's name and although I love it now and it suits her, I don't want to compromise again. I think I care too much what people think. Suppose that's human nature tho.

I wanted dd to be Dolores/Lola/Lolly.

We foolishly told a few people before hard and FIL said 'Sounds like a prostitute' and another friend said 'Sounds like a stripper'.

After that dp vetoed it.

Dd is now three and it would have suited her down to the ground.

I have a Lola, she's 2.6. I don't know of any other Lola's where we live so I'm hoping she'll be the only one in her class. I wanted her to be Harriet and XH wouldn't have it but I wish I'd pushed for it. As much as I love Lola, I do think it might become dated or too popular.

She's a feisty, independant madam and usually gets called Lolly by all her know her.

Probably outed myself completely there but never mind :)
