So, DH is in love with the name Jack...

Baby being born 2 weeks today by ELCS, we have found boys names so difficult, already have a 3yo DD called Holly.

Other names on the list were Alex (will probably use Alexander as middle name) Theo, Danny and erm..thats it. Hmm

DH has now fallen in love with the name Jack, and i do like it but it is soooo popular and i was one of 10 Laura's at school and known by my initial so that puts me off a bit. DH says it doesn't matter really and i am overthinking it.

What do you think?

Flynn Alexander Taylor would have the initials FAT. Shame as it sounds great as a full name!

I grew up in a Surfer town (my brother Louis went surfing). Most of the surfers I knew called things like... Ian, or Craig. And Other popular 1960s-1970s names.

List of famous surfers. Super out-there names like... "Simon", "Clyde, "Bill" and "Robert".

I have mega surfy mates and their little lad is called Laird after the surfer guy. He really suits his name and i don't know of another!

Sonny is also fab.

Jonah, Caspar, Wilder, Cassius, Remy, Red, Fabian (Fab). All sound surfy/beachy to me.

I absolutely love the name Jack.

Not sure what surfer names are but how about Jared, Ethan, Solomon or Nathan?

Alexander is lovely, and as AberdeenAngusina says it has a multitude of available nn's: Alex, Xander, Sandy etc..

Surfer/beachy type names aye? ...well here goes:

Jack is a perfectly nice name, don't get me wrong. I just don't love it.

There's no point calling your DC a name you find boring, and TBH that you don't really seem to like much. Make it clear to your DH that you're not having it - he seems to have no problem doing that with your choice! I'm not trying to cause a row, but once he knows you really don't want to use Jack, then you can both move on. I would much prefer a Sonny to a Jack :)

Yes i went to school with a very nice lad called Sonny Grin he was never teased or anything about his name, i never heard anyone even bring up the subject. I have told DH all of this but he just says 'but it's not a real name' Hmm

Jack is gorgeous (as is my DS1!)
He was the only one in his year at primary school
I gave my children names that couldn't be altered, mine is always shortened to something I hate. Not much you can do with Jack

Well, I have to agree that Jack is indeed very widely used and doesn't really do its job of identifying someone very well anymore. It has been THE number one name for a number of years so there are A LOT of little Jacks out there already. And yes, your surname (Taylor) is not excactly uncommon either so he will most certainly be one of many Jack Taylors.

I quite like Asher Taylor or Levi Taylor and agree that Sonny Taylor sounds good too.

Not picking just because it's "different" DD's name is quite normal, just not boring (in my opinion of course).
I just text DH to say i think we should call him Sonny. He said "i don't think so". Angry

The only Sonny I know has to be one of the coolest and best looking young men I've ever met Blush.

Now if only he weren't my friend's son, had a passion for the more mature lady and I could think of a way of sticking DH under the patio...........

Jack is great name. Not one at dcs school as far as I know (big primary). In fact I have only come across one and my eldest dc is nearly 9!
