Sorry, but I still really like Persimmon.

I'm pronouncing it PER-sim-on. Like the fruit, not the house building company.

I love the nickname Percy for a little girl.

It's pretty. It fits with my other daughter's name.

Is it really so terrible?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oops. Did I just spell Ernest wrong? Grin

If it's a boy he'll be either Gilbert or Humphrey or Earnest. Sorted.

Seraphina?

What are your boys' names?

Glad to hear the puking is better!

Gluttondressedaslamb · 06/09/2011 12:43

Or Pomolo.

Gluttondressedaslamb · 06/09/2011 12:42

Go and lie down in a darkened room for a few weeks until you feel better. Why do you want to afflict your child with the name of a dodgy fruit or even, in your very own words, some of the uglier Victorian scullery maid names ? Are you having a difficult pregnancy? Is this some kind of revenge for extreme sickness? Or do you just want to give birth to your own skivvy? I am keeping my fingers crossed that you will have a boy. And then you`ll probably call him Peregrine. I give up...

allhailtheaubergine · 06/09/2011 11:55

I wasn't really apologising for the name; more the fact that I am disagreeing with everyone despite being told quite unequivocally that it is Not A Good Idea.

Lol @ 'cute' moss. Actually, Moss could be a name.

Clementine.

Mirabelle. What about something else ending in belle? Not Isabelle.

Juniper.

Lorelei (Dh says absolutelynotnowaynoargumentsnotever)

Persephone

Persimmon

Myrtle

Peregrine

I also really like Gertie and Hester and some of the uglier Victorian scullery maid names, but these really don't go with my other daughter's name.

Oh dear. Perhaps I'd just better hope this kid is a boy.

Ooh, Pomona is also a good nature name.

Gincognito · 05/09/2011 22:38

Lark
Larch
Marimo

Names I secretly like but will never use. Marimo is worth googling - it's a super cute Japanese moss ball.

Yes I said moss

FleurTing · 05/09/2011 22:32

Persimmons are fruit that are best eaten slightly overripe - more Hyacinth Bucket than cute little girl IMO!
I know the French are into calling their daughters fruity names (I`ve come across Cerise, Prune, Clementine and Framboise) but Citron???? Lol

Hulababy · 05/09/2011 21:03

I would still automatically think of the hous ebuilding company, sorry.

Persephone however is lovely.

mummynoseynora · 05/09/2011 20:36

please don't call your child that ... or Persephone - if you have read Stephen Kings Duma Key you would know why ..... waaaaaaay creeeepy!

FairyArmadillo · 05/09/2011 20:33

I like it.

MmeLindor. · 05/09/2011 20:05

Well, DH laughed me out of the house when I suggested Liesl

mathanxiety · 05/09/2011 19:59

Laurel is lovely, and I admit I do have a sneaking liking for Persimmon...

Would you consider
Anjou
Cerise
Clementine
Citron
Mirabelle
Pomeline

allhailtheaubergine · 05/09/2011 16:36

Cheddar does have a certain ring to it though...

Umm... Got any more shockingly awful names you can't stand Mme?

OP posts:
ZhenXiang · 05/09/2011 15:47

How about Perdita, nickname Perdy/Purdy?

MmeLindor. · 05/09/2011 15:41

Reality is pregnant, so excused from baby naming threads until her hormones settle back down and her good taste returns.

See, I KNEW you would say you liked Lorelei. It is a shockingly awful name, German DH sniggered like a loon the first time I told him that some MNetters love it. You could never ever go on holiday in Germany. People would would be Shock to hear someone call a child that.

Like calling a boy Cheddar Gorge.

allhailtheaubergine · 05/09/2011 15:15

Vindicated! I am not alone!

How many times do you want to apologise for your child's name during their life?

Every day if she goes with Persimmon :o

Hullygully · 05/09/2011 14:30

Yeah but you're pregs an all.

You felt the need to apologise in your thread title, and you haven't even decided on the name yet.

How many times do you want to apologise for your child's name during their life? Shock

Hullygully · 05/09/2011 14:27

Oh, she will be going to an uber artsy-intelligentsia school in west London, won't she?

Hullygully · 05/09/2011 14:27

It is simply simply beautiful. Rarefied and exquisite, delicate and fragrant.
