simply can't agree with OH. This is dd2, dd1 is sophie. (had no idea it was so popular - but still love it and it suits her perfectly). I feel OH should have more say as he didn't get much of a look in last time. Kathryn will be the middle name (family member) surname starts with L so lots of L names are out.
our short list is
Jessica (love Jess or Jessi), Francesca (both more his pref than mine) Anna (my pref). There's lots of others we like but don't agree on, and some maybes are Alexandra, Nina, Jo (not sure if nn for Josephine or Joanna).
We think she'll have strong features and personality wise up until today I would have said she seems quite an easy going happy soul, quite a twinkle in her eye. would like something kind of cool but not pretentious.
help!

Ahh, thats lovely, very pretty name, glad you have found something you both love Smile

snoozealot · 19/09/2011 07:53

hi just an update. We went for Anna in the end, my partner came up with the convincingly rational arguement that it sounded best with Dd1 (his first from previous marriage) and DD2, and that when I'd first suggested it (when I was about 5 months preg!) he didn't like it but it's grown on him and thinks dd3 can rock it out. It's odd because I'd discounted it as I thought he didn't like it and was trying to choose between Francesca and Nina. Well it only took us 5 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to come up with that brain splittingly original name... omg. it's now very strange to actuallly be calling her a name, and I can't help keep saying - oh but such and such a name is lovely and I really like....

We even got a snotty letter from the registrar and only just managed to get an appointment on the 42nd day.

thanks for all your ideas and suggestions. Hope this one sticks and I don't keep considering more names!!

Please let us know your choice. X

Nina is a fabulous name. I think the others you have suggested are all a bit bland and/or dated.

Sinople · 07/09/2011 06:45

what did you pick?
just incase youre still looking - i like anna, zara, freya, orli, skye, hannah, belle, judy, annabel, susanna and connie.

lizziebennet · 06/09/2011 13:59

Why not just have Kathryn as her first name? Kate as nn?

qwerty123 · 06/09/2011 13:23

Good luck. Hope you find a name you both love.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 06/09/2011 13:22

Personally if you have got Sophie I'd avoid names that end in the ee sound. Think your new DD would love something completely different from her older sister.

"Don't worry about names being popular- it won't bother them if it doesn't bother you" have to disagree on that one. Both me and my sister had the most popular names for the years we were born. Its never bothered my mum but then she doesn't work with 4 others and have to deal with the constant confusion.

As others have said Jessica and Anna are both lovely but very popular. Francesca is lovely but was common a few years ago.

The only Josephine I know everyone loves and is kind and has a great sense of humour so my vote is with that.

How about Harriet or Juilet?

yawningbear · 06/09/2011 11:51

I went to college with a Marnie, and she was also just a Marnie. I have always thought of it as a name in its own right and it is really very lovely. I also like Jess & Anna. Joanna is pretty too but Jo seems too plain to me and half the class were Joanne or Joanna when I was at school so that kind of puts me off, though for that reason I would think if you call her Joanna she will be the only one in her class. I vote for Marnie or Iris (DS would have been Iris had he not been a DS) not that either were on your original list Grin.

FannyAnnPam · 06/09/2011 11:39

oh and I worked with a Marnie, who was just a Marnie. not short for anything...

FannyAnnPam · 06/09/2011 11:37

Hi

I like Jessica but I am guessing that has been ruled out now.

I agree that Francesca can be problematic. If there is any chance of a big boobs or early development then 'Chest' nicknames come into play (IME) and I guess that may also be a problem (something along the 'Flat-Chest-ca' lines) if she is a late developer too.

Love the name Hazel (will be a MN for ours if a girl), so just to throw another in the mix.. what about Juliet?

Tigresswoods · 06/09/2011 11:07

Alexandra is a fab name with lots of suitable nicknames. I vote for that Grin

DessieLou · 06/09/2011 11:07

Iris
Lydia
Florence
Aubrey
Sasha
Leila...my choice!
Zoe
C'mon Snoozealot, you can do it!

pinkhebe · 06/09/2011 11:05

I haven't heard the name Joanna in years, I think it's really pretty, and love the nn Jo

MmeLindor. · 06/09/2011 11:04

What about Chessy as nn for Francesca? (a la Jilly Cooper)

I like Francesca and Anna best from your list.

What about Rebecca Kathryn? nn Becca?
