I disagree that Alexandra, Lexie is everywhere. I named my daughter Alexandra and we call her Alex. However, I dont know directly of any others and at my son's nursery they said they have not had one for years!

Both my mum and sisters names are coming up a bit! How many of us know of people or are parents who have named their children after grandparents? Logically it follows that if my daughter has a daughter in the future, she might want to name her after my mum, who is Susan. Look at how in vogue "old fashioned" names are today. Personally I like to select my favourite names out of the 1920s-1940s! Grin

Apart from perhaps Adolf/ph I think we'll see these names again, or at least our childrens children will!

I've certainly encountered babies called Hilda, Maud, Evelyn, Ivy, Iris, recently!

I think the real issue is with names that are still associated with the generation of the parents of people who are of childbearing age, or names that were considered 'modern' and trendy a generation or so ago - I'm sure they will again in the future, be regarded as lovely and vintage-y unusual, but it will take more time! So I think it will take a while for Sharon, Tracey, Trevor, Nigel, Nigel, Brian, Pamela, Karen etc to get back in vogue. But give it a few decades and no doubt they'll seem as charming and quirky as Ivy, Violet, Alfie and Bertie...

Reckon you're out on your girls names, 1944, I know an Edna, Enid and several Evelyns and Iris's. Not a Wilma or Thelma though, you could be right there.

1944girl - you're joking re Evelyn, right?! It's one of the most over-used names around right now!

Ivy and Iris are starting to gain in popularity as well (although i don't understand why).
