Poison Ivy or Coronation Street - not good. Iris better IMHO

Oh I don't watch coronation street, is there an Ivy in it?
Do you think she'd be taken the mick for poison ivy?
Is it a very popular name? It doesn't seem to be in the top 100.

I like it :) It's a lovely name, very pretty and unusual but not unheard of.

I wouldn't have thought of "poison ivy".

I don't watch 'Corrie' either and the character Ivy may well be long dead. My mum is an Ivy and had a hellish time with poison Ivy (although she can be rather poisonous) Viva the lambrettas Grin

Poison Ivy or clinging Ivy. Horrible-one of the old names that shouldn't come back.

Ivy in Corrie is a LONG time ago, but afraid it was my instant feeling when I read your post. Bit of an 'old biddys' name IMHO. But the younger generations won't link it to Corrie so it would prob be fine.

I like the suggestion of Iris though - pretty

I see Ivy in the same bracket as Iris, Ava, Elsie, etc - ie the Old Lady Chic bracket. Not sure why it seems unpopular on here as I thought the old lady names were generally very popular (although admittedly none of them are my cup of tea!).

Also, I think of it in the same bracket as Holly which is also very pretty.

I wouldn't worry about the Coronation Street Ivy - she left the soap in the mid-nineties and if we all tried to avoid soap opera names then we'd be pretty stuck Smile And Poison Ivy... personally a bit of a stretch for me (I'm UK based and we don't have it here).

LOVE it - have a rather scrumptious Ivy - always get really positive comments. We knew some people wouldn't dig it and it'd make them think of old ladies but we think it's pretty, floral without being overly cutesy, unusual without being freakishly rare. And it's a little bit quirky but simple. Love it still 19 months on. And in 2010 only 220 people named their daughters that but I'm sure it'll go up a bit this year. Also loved Elsie and Mabel. Considered Iris but kept thinking of eyes and Ivy feels stronger to yell!

Go with what you love - you'll be using it more than anyone else. Grin
