Okay, I posted a couple of days ago about names for DC (boy/girl twins due 29/09). We have narrowed it down to 3 names for each sex which we love equally! We would really appreciate which names people think are the best combinations, what boy/girl names go well together and if there are any obvious reasons why we shouldn't use them (teasing etc). At this stage we just don't know how we are going to chose between them!

Boys
Asher Gideon Hugo

Olivier Amos Reuben
Lennox Fabian Darcy

Girls
Isadora Poppy Quinn

Gabriella Georgie Coco
Emilia Tallulah Bo

Hmm I'm starting to see a lot of potential mix-ups between the names Olivier and Oliver, that one may have to be demoted to a middle name

I would routinely confuse Olivier for Oliver, esp. as Oliver is like No. 1 name, right?

Of all your choices I like Amos and Isadora the best. Am struggling with Coco, Bo, Poppy, Tallulah (extra blech), Darcy.

Asher and isadora

curlwur200 · 27/08/2011 18:46

I'm not massively keen on any of the combinations but I love some of the individual names. How about Fabian Olivier Hugo and Poppy Tallulah Bo?

Busybee21 · 27/08/2011 18:05

Lennox Fabian Darcy and Emilia Tallulah Bo. Good luck with chosing!

And would most people be able to pronounce it the correct way - Olly-veEER with the emphasis on the last syllable. I think a lot of English speakers are going to say Oll-IV-e-ay with an English accent.

In other words, Olivier in French sounds lovely but the way I envisage an English person's pronunciation isn't. Sorry.

scarlettlips · 27/08/2011 17:36

Ohhh well done on cutting down your list...that must of been tough it was a good list! Smile

Olivier and Gabriella

AnnMarie82 · 27/08/2011 17:35

Would many people mistake Olivier for Oliver? I know the spelling is very similar but the sounds are so different

Ashley and Lennox are both very nice. Olivier/Olly is a little dull in comparison - there are just so many around.

I like Isadora and Gabriella very much too. Agree that Quinn sounds quite masculine (like Finn).

brodanbell · 27/08/2011 17:22

Have known a few Ashleys in the past (male ones) and they've always been shortened to Ash, so that's a factor to consider if it bothers you. Likewise Olivier = Olly.

rachel1970 · 27/08/2011 17:21

Asher is lovely and undersused. As is Isadora - beautiful, feminine and not used much.

I know a little boy called Quinn (short for Quentin I think) and prefer it for a boy.

winkle2 · 27/08/2011 17:18

Is coco a name?

AnnMarie82 · 27/08/2011 17:12

Probably should also point out that when it comes to nicknames the aim is to use Ella as a nickname for Gabriella, Emmie as a nickname for Emilia and Issy and a nickname for Isadora. Boys not sure we would nickname them.

Love Love Love Gabriella it is (one of) my favourite girls names, so that gets my vote. Never used to like it before because of Gabby as a nn, but I have learnt to love that also! Georgie and Coco are fine as middle names, I don't love Georgie, would go for a proper name like Georgia or Georgina but they are only middle names so it ain't the end of the world.
Of the boys, not keen on Asher or Lennox, so Olivier it is.....but prefer Oliver.
Not mad keen on any of the boys middle names tbh, but if I had to choose, I'd go Olivier Reuben Hugo or t'other way around.

WhiffOfBath · 27/08/2011 16:59

Of the boys' names, I would avoid Lennox and Asher as they seem very faddy (like Dexter). But I'd also avoid Olivier as I think you'll spend half your lives correcting people who think it's Oliver (a very different name). But I do like Hugo, Reuben and Fabian. Have you considered Emmanuel or Augustus? Augustus Gideon Hugo, f'rinstance. Though Gideon is a bit like 'oh my giddy aunt'.

Girls: of your choices, Emilia Tallulah Bo. Not Gabby or Issy.

glittershoes · 27/08/2011 16:55

I'd go Asher and Isadora. I love both as first names and the middle names are nice as well!

ballstoit · 27/08/2011 16:47

My favourite combination is Olivier and Isadora.

Mainly because Olivier is the only one of your boys names I like (I've heard Asher a lot as a girls name), I'm not a fan of Gabriella (the angel connotations) and I think Olivier and Emilia sound too similar (I can imagine calling one of them up the stairs and they'd both answer).

I love Gideon and Reuben though...could you use one of them as a first name instead Grin
