Fourth son - need a Scottish name. Used three already-help!

So we're onto either Lachlan or Brodie for this one but I'm looking for more suggestions. We already have a Euan, Callum and a Fergus. I had dismissed Innes but heard it in a shop today and quite liked it.

Im stuck - poor we'd Fergus was nameless for 10 days - I want to get this one cracked before he pops out.

I love the name Innes, also Lachlan. Every Innes I've ever met has been a completely excellent individual too!

I love Innes and Struan. I know you can't have Struan but Innes is a brilliant, strong Scottish name. I would never make the associations your friend mentioned. Shock

Oh, and I have heard of a Ghillie, or Gillie, short for Gillespie, both much nicer than Gilles.

Is Inez a Scottish name? It's in my Scottish branch but I had doomphly thought it was a Mexican influence.

i'd say e nez for a girl (ines) and in ness for a boy (in ness like guiness)

I'm not sure exactly how Scottish it is but I love Lennox (and he was a character in Macbeth). I also love Dougal with the nn Dougie (prenounced like Doo-ge). Good luck with chosing - your other boys' names are lovely as well!

Murray's one of my favourite names ever! I have a Findlay and a Nairn; when I was pregnant with DS1 the only Findlay I'd ever heard of was Sharron Davies' son. He's 10 now and we know lots of 5-6 year old Findlays. It's a lot more popular now. I've only ever met one other Nairn though.

Boyd, Lyle, Douglas, Alastair, Seumas, Keir, Blair, Innes and Cullen were all names that we had bookmarked for our last two (who turned out to be girls!)

Does it absolutely have to be a Scottish name? Not that there's anything wrong with having that theme, just that 'traditional' names that aren't Scottish in origin would fit nicely with the ones you already have. I'm thinking something along the lines of William or Robert.

You're right on your assessment of Brodie/Brody. It's been highjacked by the trendy American teen programmes (I'm thinking primarily of Brody Jenner).

here in edinburgh there are lots of wee boys called hamish and lachlan ... i know of others called magnus, innes, angus and murray - all lovely names. if we'd had a boy, he was going to be dugald, which i love. duncan is also a winner, i think. happy choosing!

I do like Murray actually. Sorely rhymes with surname so no good. Innes??? Is this a girls name in your view? Do you think Penis/anus as I've had someone say this to me. dougal has been vetoed as has Gilles

my nephew is a month old called Fletcher he lives in Australia.

We wanted a scottish name for our DC1 if a boy (it was a girl) we would have gone with Lochlan and little different than Lachlan. I also liked Brodie but the skiier Bodie Miller put me of as it was too similar.
My other choices were

Oddly enough, there is a Brodie in DS's football group so I'd say it's not uncommon here in Australia either.
If you're planning on coming here, don't go for Bruce - although almost no one is called that any more, it's too much of a cliché.
Harrison is very popular here too (I know that's not on your list but I saw someone had suggested Harris)

Murray is nice.
