Does this name conjure up images of the sea and a place for boats or is it an underused classic?

Does anyone know any RL Marinas?

Marina and the diamonds. I love her therefore the name is win!

proudfoot · 27/08/2011 17:31

I know three, one Russian, one German, one Swiss. I think it's a nice, pretty name which works well in lots of languages. Quite girly but not too frilly and over the top.

Scaevola · 26/08/2011 12:19

I think first of the Princess, then of the car (used to be the other way round, when the cars were in production and on the road).

Also, the first time someone mentioned a mirena to me, I misheard that as "Marina" - I'm not sure if that's just me, or if others would make a link too.

Trizelda · 26/08/2011 12:17

Isn't Ben Fogle's wife called Marina? I think it sounds very exotic and pretty!

getagoldtoof · 26/08/2011 12:12

Lovely - know a beautiful Russian art student named Marina.

foreverwino · 24/08/2011 20:56

I love it. Dp vetoed it because it was to 'boaty'.

MamaChoo · 24/08/2011 20:51

I love the name Marina and really want it for our next baby. However, i now live somewhere with 5 marinas - not Marinas, but marinas, so it might not work!

emmanumber3 · 24/08/2011 20:51

A place for boats. Howard's girlfriend/tarty bit on Last Of The Summer Wine.

Also, not a nice name IMO. Sorry Blush.

My next door neighbour when I was growing up was called Marina. She was the nicest woman I've ever had the good fortune to meet.

carciofi · 24/08/2011 20:43

I think it is a lovely name. I know a little Marina. The family are big into sailing so it suits her perfectly!

coccyx · 24/08/2011 20:42

coil???? i know its not spelt the same ,but thats what came to my mind

PercyFilth · 24/08/2011 20:41

It's lovely.

The previous Duchess of Kent (mother of the current Duke, Princess Alexandra & Prince Michael) she was Princess Marina of Greece. Very elegant lady.

Marina is also the heroine of Shakespeare's Pericles.

kelly2000 · 24/08/2011 19:55

upahill · 24/08/2011 19:55

Love it. I associate it with academic types.

minipie · 24/08/2011 17:33

How about Serena Carina, Miranda, Sabrina, Marianna ...

MerylStrop · 24/08/2011 17:30

pointydog · 24/08/2011 17:28

Quite like it, mainly because it makes me think of the sea

EskimoPie · 24/08/2011 17:19

Lovely name :)
There's one in the royal family too.

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 24/08/2011 17:13

For me it sadly conjures up a number of yukky-coloured cars owned by my parents and grandparents in the 70s.

But as a name I like it.
