Is there a female version or one that looks like/sounds like James (to use as a middle name if DC is DD) ?

Thanks

James would work fine as a mn. (not sure as first though - too established as a boys name iykwim)

Jamieson means son of James. I think that says it all.

AmziePie · 25/08/2011 21:37

I think either Jemma (or spelt Gemma) or Jamie :)

greenzebra · 25/08/2011 19:40

just been on nameberry and Jamesette/Jamesetta/Jamese are listed on there as names

They also suggested Vesper (because its a Bond girls name. That could be an interresting route to take.)

BikeRunSki · 25/08/2011 08:24

Etta James was named after her father, James, and Etta was short for Jamesetta. I assume that "James" as her surname was a stage name or married name, other wise she would have been Jamesetta James, daughter of James James.

I know a child called Caitlin Catherine!

OriginalPoster · 25/08/2011 08:23

I know a girl called Jimmy. She is ver ver posh.

Whysoserious · 25/08/2011 08:12

Yes there's an actress / model called James King. She's in Pearl Harbour. She seems to be going by the name Jaime King now but she was James when she was younger and modelling for definite. I remember reading about her in my nan's Telegraph magazine when she was 16 and thinking how cool she looked and how brilliant it was that she was called James!

beanlet · 24/08/2011 15:15

Porn "actress" Jenna James, yes. But James is her surname (phew).

stripeybump · 24/08/2011 12:52

Isn't there a model or actress called James something or another?

Jamesmumhasgotitgoinon · 24/08/2011 12:42

Just to add to wearenot's post that's where the name of our flag, Union Jack, comes from - king James!
Why not give your DD the name James, she'll prob thinks it really cool when she's older.

cece · 23/08/2011 13:09

Jenna

leicestershiregirl · 23/08/2011 13:03

If I have a daughter I'd like to call her James but I don't know if I'll be brave enough. A compromise would be Jamieson. Either way with Jamie as a nickname.

nickschick · 23/08/2011 01:05

aw ty wearenot - that was puzzling me Smile im easily confused.

wearenotamused · 23/08/2011 01:04

mathanxiety oh my lord, not good - you are a better person than me, I would have cracked and said something :)

nickschick They are both variations/come from James. James comes from Jacob and Hamish is Scottish (anglasised from Seumas which is James in Gaelic)

nickschick · 23/08/2011 00:58

jamesy sounds a bit more girly?

I dont get the Jacob Hamish comment?

Coffee addict what type of business did you do with a girl called James .....Hmm WinkGrin.

Clary · 23/08/2011 00:33

What? Noooo!

You can't call your daughter James! I know it's all about unisex names today (Taylor, Ellis, Mckenzie) but really, James is a boy's name.

I speak as someone who has a unisex name. My name doesn't tell you my sex which I hate. And my name is actually normally a girl. James is a boy. A girl will not I would imagine thank you for it.

CaptainMartinCrieff · 22/08/2011 20:51

I actually know a female James. She goes by Jamie and doesn't tell anyone but close friends that she's actually a James.

AberdeenAngusina · 22/08/2011 20:44

It doesn't look or sound like James, but Jacobina is a female version.

mathanxiety · 22/08/2011 19:05

James is a very soft sounding name imo and for a mn for a girl I think it is acceptable, especially if there is a family reason to use it.

I know a girl whose mn is Michael and that works imo. Also knew a Mary Faust which wasn't half as nice.

theworldspins · 22/08/2011 18:39

Is this MumsNet giving me permission to use James as a mn if it is a girl or a boy ?!?! Shock Shock.

Thank you all very much.

my surname is james and my wife has never used my first name (katie) she ALWAYS has, from the moment we met, used my surname, so whenever we're out she calls me James and no one has really said anything or reacted to the fact i have a 'boy's name! ha ha.

i think James is a great name for a girl! (though i am biased!)

tiredteddy · 22/08/2011 15:48

I went to school with a girl called Jameson / jamieson not sure how it was spelt? Pronounced, Jay-me-son.

SenoritaViva · 22/08/2011 15:36

My niece is called Jaime (pronounced Jaymee) and I think its' lovely. She's 16 and loves her name.

Ephiny · 22/08/2011 15:36

Gemma/Jemma? Used to be quite popular, but don't hear them so much these days. Jamie is quite nice for a girl too.
