Dh ruins all of my baby name plans here is my list if he had no say for a Ds I would have a Hugo or a Jesse we mostly agree on girls names but I love Fleur and he despises it.

What would you call your baby if you had free rein?

girls - Mildred

boys - Reginald or Rolf

all veto'd

MamaLazarou · 19/08/2011 13:32

Lennox, Marlon or Evander.

He likes Mason and Marshall - yuck!

I also like Joyce for a girl, but he had a nasty aunt by that name.

wilkos · 19/08/2011 11:28

marianne
verity
romilly
elizabeth
clara
tabitha

for DS we agreed!

beckybrastraps · 19/08/2011 11:24

The only name I suggested that DH didn't like was Hope, and I much prefer DD's name (which was actually DS's suggestion). DS's name was non-negotiable really.

Graciescotland · 19/08/2011 11:22

If we ever have a DD I shall name her Caitlin, we have a pact DH names boys, I name girls. Although we both wield the veto :)

StrangeTown · 19/08/2011 11:20

Emilio - DH kinda likes it now, but too late - have safe names he picked.
Adair - I love this name - someone else already mentioned it for a boy, but I have only seen it (in a fiction book) for a girl.

Edith, Margaret, Cecilia. DH vetoed all. He would have had Lauren, Sophie or Charlotte. We ended up with names we both love but I still kind of wish we had a little Maggie.

Woodlands · 18/08/2011 22:45

I wish my husband had been the type to be in awe at what I went through and delegate all naming powers to me. I really like Toby, Rory or Leo for a boy and Catriona or Caitlin for a girl. No joy.

CarrieOakey · 18/08/2011 22:36

My children would have been called Grace, Finlay and Elsie

MugglesandLuna · 18/08/2011 22:34

DS1 would have been Hugh
DD would have been Phoebe Alison.
I got my way with DS2 so I am happy.

ds would have been Sebastian or Basil

DD1 would have been Aida or Lakme'

by dd2 and 3 we didnt actually disagree that much

BikeRunSki · 18/08/2011 21:58

Schroedinger, I know the feeling!

I have suggested, and DH vetoed, amongst others - Evelyn and Lorellei

He has suggested, and I have vetoed - Thomasin and Morwenna. He hasn;t suggested anything else.

ReebleBeeble · 18/08/2011 21:51

Saw this thread and immediately asked my DP what he thought as we'd had fairly lengthy discussions on what to call our DD (ended up with Mollie Heather Olwen).

His were DS- Alvar (a Dungeons and Dragons thing) or Albert and for DD- Melody or River (From Dr Who...). Hes such a geek! I actually dont mind Melody but I wouldnt like daughters with matching names.
Mine are- DS- Reuben or Noah and for DD- Harriett or Hannah. Or maybe Noa. He's pretty much vetoed them all.

Our friends and family shot down our original choices of Abraham and Aria and took the piss so much that Im now dead set against them. Aria is DPs favourite girls name though and apparantly hes not put it on the list because hes still hoping to persuade me to use it!

DessertsInReverse · 18/08/2011 21:25

schrodinger the name he loved was a name i'd original suggested but then like you the more i heard it the less i liked when it was then forced on dd , i actually put all my anger at dh's inability to compromise onto the name resulting in me loathing it . once we changed her name we kept dh's name as a mn and i've grown to like it even love it.

i believe if dh had been more prepared to discuss alternatives rather than just veto everything quite simply because they weren't the name he liked my dislike of the name would not have grown . i think if this had been the case i would probably have accepted his choice and we would have had none of the acrimony we experienced .

good luck
ps naming within minutes of the birth can work ds4 was to be a hayden [embarrassed] but as soon as i saw him he looked like a name i'd laughed at as poncey beyond poncey and rejected while pg and now 5 years he fits his name perfectly. he's not poncey btw .
sorry for the thread hijack

jenniec79 · 18/08/2011 21:13

DD - Lilian, Frances, Dora

DS - Lewis, Frank, (I love Bertie too, but not too keen on Albert, not sure if I'd get away with a Bertram (ie Wooster) these days and Robert is out as clashes)

lwfhinba · 18/08/2011 21:06

DH said no to Ana Clara because he said that Ana won't go with his surname (he may have a point, but I still don't agree with him)

also to Ignacio James. What's not to like about that? Pah.

SchrodingersMew · 18/08/2011 20:56

Magic I will probably give it a few days before I settle. :) Thanks for the advice.

Freya Xavier was one of the ones my DP wanted, and while I like it I just wouldn't be able to stop thinking about Xmen. :o

freyamalaya · 18/08/2011 20:45

DP said absolutely no way to my desperation for a Xavier (I sometimes call DS Xavier when no-one looking to see how it sounds on him...) Blush

PrincessScrumpy · 18/08/2011 20:40

Oooh, I loved Blossom (this one would be a middle name as I knew dh wouldn't go for it as a first name - he laughed and said no way).

Martha - dh screwed up his face and said nooooo. I still love it.

Kitty - not Catherine, just Kitty like in the 16th century. Again I went for it as a middle name - dh loves it and wants it as a first name. I was so shocked, but delighted too.

vividgingerchilli · 18/08/2011 20:38

I got my choices :) I suggested a list of names as my favourites, one was lovely the rest were "too weird" for his liking....he went for the one that was lovely everytime ;)

magicmelons · 18/08/2011 20:38

Schro my advice would be don't just look at him after birth and name him, live with it yourself for a t least a day and then see how you feel.

We named DD the way your Dh suggested and I was just so pleased i was no longer in labour that i would have agreed to anything. Ds i said can we wait for a bit then gave it 24 hours and new the name was perfect for him. I shall do the same this time. 5 mins after you have given birth is no time to choose a name although you will feel the pressure from everyone.

Kerb how could anyone hate Martha, it is th eleast offensive name ever.

Agatha and Arthur

Kerb252318 · 18/08/2011 20:25

Martha loved it....DH said over his dead body! Tempting....
