Actually for DS, I wanted to follow family tradition and give him my surname as a first name. DP just wasnt convinced. I think Gilmour Puxley would actually be quite nice. He could have been Gil for short!
DD was always going to be Catey Scarlet. From the minute she was conceived. At birth, DP said, "don't I get a say" and he wanted Elizabeth or frigging Victoria! So, she is now Catey (Catherine) Victoria!

I wouldn't of chose either of my children's names If I had my way, their names both end in the Oooh sound as does my sister, it makes for very confusing family get togethers.
Dd would of been William shortened to Liam, dp wanted Bill (actually, Bill would of been the better choice) or Fern, which is an abreviation of a family surname.

Ds would of had my fathers name, both my father and dp, said/pleaded NO.
or Caitlin if he had been a girl.

Schrodinger - I feel your frustration. I had a similar pregnancy with DD (by the sounds of it) and yet, due to DH's inability to see the potential in soo many nice names we were almost decided on his choice. I was already feeling a bit bummed about this when I was induced. After a crappy labour which resulted in me giving birth without any pain relief at all (because I left it too late to ask for pethidine & the gas & air were confiscated ) I simply looked at our new DD and said "her name is X". The name was actually what we had thought for her middle name - my first choice of name which DH had deemed "OK". He didn't argue & now loves her name as much as I do. He also agrees that she is much more her name than the name she almost had! .

I agree, great thread . DH vetoed so many of my favourite names I lost count!

DS1 - Would still have been Jack. He was actually named after my grandfather, just before the name became quite so popular. It was the last name we thoroughly agreed on!

DS2 - Marcus, Isaac or Sam.

DD - Poppy, Daisy or possibly Posy.

I have recently "discovered" the name Delphi & would love to call any future DD that (if I ever have another DC that is) - I strongly suspect DH would hate that name too .

I wanted Florence or Charlotte for a girl and got Charlotte for a second name. For a boy, Rafi or Adam. We'll see for DC 2!

Austin for a boy and Cressida for a girl. Probably a good thing that DH is less pretentious than me!

DS - Archer, Wyatt or Gabriel. DH said yes to Wyatt. We had another DD.

DD - Fable, Olivia and Scarlett. No.

Verity or Lola for a girl (loved Verity and still do but DP just flat out hated it)
William, George or Conrad.

Needless to say I got none of the above, DP picked both DD and DS's names, I adore DD's name but DS's after 2 and a half years is still growing on me

I love the name Freddie (massive queen fan!) but DP hates it :(
I also love spanish names like Pablo, Hugolinio, Juan. Even french names like Jean Claude, Francois and so on. Dont think I would ever actually call my kids these names though, I just like doing spanish and french accents

For the others DH vetoed:

DD2 Talitha
DD3 Maggie/Bobbie
DS Sandy/Stiring.

Happy with them all now except DD3, but she has an ace nn, so it's not too bad.

Ottilie, Stevie (Nicks!) and Titus. DH vetoed them, the miserable bugger.

Otis and Ursula.

If I had a boy on my own, he'd be James Phillip Louis, after important friends and family. DP will want some input, though, damn him . And I can't have Sebastian, it's "too poncey."

My married name will rhyme with Willow, so Heather's out, for a girl; rhymes with "feather pillow". Willow, obviously, is gone. Dylan, for a boy, is gone.

I always wanted a Catalina/Katya-for-short. DP's ex was Catalina, so that's out.

There's nobody else I'd want to be the father of my children, but I'm a little nostalgic for the names I could have had, if I'd fallen in love with someone else...

DD prob her name or maybe Mabel which I also love and DH hated. I also liked Constance and Cecily. Ooh and Harriet.

DS2 not sure, we chose his name together but it's an abbreviation which I was trying to avoid... Henry? Wilfred? Stanley perhaps tho that's inevitably Stan. Or yes I liked Gabriel too. Anyway DH vetoed all of those. I do like DS2's name tho!

fivegomad I love your choices (Agatha is another DH vetoed). I think yr DD shares my DD's name! We must band together (not many out there despite what you read on MN)

Girls - Sophia, Jessica (Jessie), Lucia, Kaye, Cassie

Boys - Evan, Nathan, Ruraidh, Leon, Nico

The latter 2 boys names were rejected because aparently we are of the wrong colour to use them ... although you can imagine his smirk when 2 afro-carribean children moved in next door with those names and their mother actually agreed with him :o
