Pronounced Vey-da not Vah-da

As in My Girl.

Bit too Darth, or do you like?

You can still buy Star wars lego and that bizare cartoon one came out a few years (that was a waste of £6 to see). But fair point about hype etc
I have a friend who named his son Obi after Obi-Wan Kenobi. He even has a baby grow with Mr Guinness on it.
If you are going to go Star Wars universe at least pick a name from the correct side for example Leia,Padmé or Sabé.
(can you tell I love star wars)

A1980 · 21/08/2011 00:27

LOL! Over as in they are not making any more. You rarely hear anything about it in the media, etc. Just over in the sense that the hype is over with all the movie releases so in a few years, perhaps children wont make the connection.

Of course you make the connection as did I. But we probably grew up with it. Return of the Jedi came out when i was at primary school, the new films were for the next generation of children to grow up with. The next generation wont have the hype of new movies, etc. That's all.

A1980 Star Wars over - what a thing to say. Star Wars will never be over
Saying that Darth was the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

A1980 · 21/08/2011 00:15

I really like it. Star Wars is over big time so by the time these children go to school no one may make the connection.

Vala is a bit softer as an alternative.

Plonker · 20/08/2011 23:32

I thought of 'Sultenfuss' too.

Darth didn't enter my head.

I can't decide whether I like it or not though Confused

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/08/2011 23:29

My Girl. Was my brother's favourite film so I've seen it 97,445 times :)

PuppyMonkey · 20/08/2011 23:23

It is a silly name.

BeanaReena · 20/08/2011 23:21

I think of 'My Girl'
I think it's quite pretty :)

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 14/08/2011 21:18

I am Envy I wanted Veda, bu DH vetoed it completely...he used the Darth association. To me, its My Girl, nver even thought of Darth Vadar.

I love it.

Kirstle · 14/08/2011 21:02

Darth is Vader yes, but the pron is the same, hence my post.

I disagree that people will think its pronounced Vah-Da. I think there were only a couple posts of 26 that were unsure. The main point is that the pronounciation does sound like Darth Vader...

Hmm.. back to Lola then :P lol

I was racking my brains as to where I have heard the term vada before. I have just remembered that it is a traditional south Indian savoury snack.
here

coccyx · 14/08/2011 20:08

surely not??? sounds like a cleaning product

RageAndLove · 14/08/2011 20:06

Instantly thought Darth when I saw thread, sorry

scarlettsmummy2 · 14/08/2011 19:43

I'm Irish and it immediately made me think of Veda bread, which is a very popular brown loaf.

LifeOfKate · 14/08/2011 19:41

I thought it was spelt Veda? As in the hindu gods? Anyway, I like it, it does make me think of My Girl, but not in a bad way :)

Cattleprod · 14/08/2011 19:25

It makes me think of a boy at my school called Anil Vada. Poor boy spent many years being known as Anal Invader!

MmeBucket · 14/08/2011 19:18

I read the thread title, and immediately started humming Darth Vader's theme music out loud.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 14/08/2011 19:17

No.

Bunbaker · 14/08/2011 19:11

Like SaffronCake I thought it was pronounced Vah-da. Have never heard of My Girl. If you are prepared to spend a lifetime correcting other people's pronunciation then go for it. I neither like nor dislike it.

On the other hand how about Vanya?

ShoutyHamster · 14/08/2011 19:07

It's a bit evil...

Bandwithering · 14/08/2011 18:15

My friend's niece is called this but her dad is hungarian (I think it's hungarian. Or was it bulgarian)

I like it.

Darth is darth Vader isn't it? not darth Vada. So different.

Bearcrumble · 14/08/2011 18:01

It makes me think of Polari slang.

Rhubarbgarden · 14/08/2011 17:57

Darth.

TheMonster · 14/08/2011 17:08

Very dark side. I love it!

birdofthenorth · 14/08/2011 17:07

Darth, sorry.

LOVE Vita though!
