Exodus is an awful name.

In fact I don't like any of the names.

Malachi is cool.

Joseph is an excellent name. I also like;

Sarah
Anna
Delilah
Keziah

Asher
Luke
Joel
Josiah
Jonah
Zebedee

kangers · 24/08/2011 22:00

Have Josiah in my circle, very nice- never caused a stir.

NotJustKangaskhan · 24/08/2011 21:58

I like Mahlah. I like the sound of Selah, but it means to pause and contemplate what was just said/read (so to me it is a verb, not a name). For unusual Biblical girl's names: Bithiah, Iscah, Keturah, Ketziah, Shifra, Moriah, Tirzah, Serah, Sheba/Sheva.

I like pretty much all of your boys names, except Psalms (again, it has a nice sound, but it doesn't seem like a name to me). Elihu, Reuel, Itai, Gilead would also fit in your list.

earshot · 24/08/2011 21:54

We loved Malachi which we thought was really unusual (turns out it's quite popular round here though!) but sadly it doesn't go with our surname. Esther was our alternative if DS had turned out to be a girl.

comedaygoday · 24/08/2011 21:46

For boys I like Amos, Abraham, Elijah, Elisha, Josiah, Jonah, Isaiah,Seth and Silas.

For girls I like Esther, Miriam, Sarah, Mary, Martha, Elizabeth. Tabitha and Zipporah.

MaElsie · 24/08/2011 21:36

Girls - how about Bethlehem, Eden, Gethsemane, Bethany, Carmel

Boys - how about Jude, Abel, Felix, Samson, Josiah, Elijah

Ephiny · 15/08/2011 12:05

If you like place names - Carmel, Eden, Magdala or Bethany for a girl?

There are absolutely dozens of 'people' names, many of them quite popular, don't know where to even start. Did you want something 'unusual' sounding though?

notevenamousie · 15/08/2011 07:10

Emmanuel or Emmanuelle for a girl? (God with us)
I also like Josiah, Josie for a girl?
Gabriel(le) - getting a bit more common these days I think?
Jude, Joel, Apollo
Philippa, Lydia

evenlessnarkypuffin · 14/08/2011 22:44

Mahlah - lovely

Amos - very nice
David - classic
Hanniel - nice but a lot of people will hear Daniel
Samuel -nice, popular
Meshach - nice, more unusual

MirandaGoshawk · 14/08/2011 22:41

Joel is my favourite name ever

It seem to me that you have lots of gorgeous boy names but your girl names aren't really names. How about:

Tabitha
Michal
Sharon Wink
Tamar
and if you're from Ethiopia - Sheba!

reastie · 14/08/2011 22:38

tabitha is biblical

manicinsomniac · 14/08/2011 22:35

Names for girls from the top 200 (maybe even top 100) in America

Eden
Genesis
Angel

A1980 · 14/08/2011 22:33

How about Jacob's son's for boys:

Reuben
Simeon
Levi
Judah
Dan
Naphtali
Gad
Asher
Issachar
Zebulun
Joseph
Benjamin

Ivortheengine8 · 14/08/2011 20:56

I like Josiah too bear. It was on my list until DH said he didn't like it!

tummytickler · 14/08/2011 19:41

What about something like Blessing or Praise? I love this style of name and used to work with a Blessing.
As I said earlier, I have an Amos, and we also liked Mordecai, Shem, Lazarus. Any good?

Bearcrumble · 14/08/2011 18:10

I like Josiah for a boy.

Rhubarbgarden · 14/08/2011 18:03

Somebody once posted about Vesper for a girl. It's not a bible name but it means evening prayer, and I think it's rather lovely.

toomuchteaching · 14/08/2011 17:21

I have always loved Atarah, she's from one of the 1 Chron lists (2:26) so there's not much of a story to go with it, but it does mean crown. Lovely!

In fact if you're looking for unusual just work your way through the genealogical lists, you're bound to find something.

manicinsomniac · 14/08/2011 15:36

Ah ok, well, as an Ethiopian Christian I think your child could easily pull off any of your name choices - though I'm still not sure about Psalm!

NasalCoffeeEnema · 14/08/2011 15:21

Have a friend with a son nmaed Ezekial (sp? theyve spelt it right) and thats pretty cool, not too odd people don't know it but also how many do you know?

NasalCoffeeEnema · 14/08/2011 15:19

I love biblical names, all three boys have them and wanted Gideon/Elijah for th elast (had hoped they were normal enough for dh)
but even I raised an eyebrow at the ones in the op

JamaicaGeisha · 14/08/2011 15:13

woowa me too with the unusual.

I don't want Biblical names that are in common usage (apart from David and Samuel as I just love them irrationally!)

I am Ethiopian Christian.

Any more suggestions would be welcome but I would prefer the more unusual side!

OP posts:
manicinsomniac · 13/08/2011 22:22

wow, I've never heard of most of those for names! Are you Jewish/very very Christian? Might be a bit odd otherwise!

Exodus - it's ok. I think it could grow on me a lot.

Mahlah - sounds kind of made up. But hey, fits with the mia/maia/mya/maya/macie/miley etc trends going reound atm.

Selah - Doesn't have a pleasant sound to it imo

Ophrah - just screams tv chat show to me sorry

Galilee - quite sweet but maybe too fixed into being a lake - like calling your child Windermere!

Mahalath - not if you're British and Caucasian, it sounds foreign

Nazareth - sounds like a boy to me, if anything. Not really name-y

Amos - bit old man like

David - quite like it. Staid and traditional.

Judah - nice enough. Not keen on Jude though

Hanniel - very different but actually quite like it

Othniel - sounds like oatmeal

Samuel - like it and Sam/Sammy are good too

Meshach - [chants] 'Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego for tea, Then came Jonah and the Whale AND the sea'

Psalm - please NO!

If I was set on a Bible name I would choose:
Girls - Abigail, Hannah, Rebekah, Lydia, Julia or Naomi
Boys - Thomas, Joshua, Isaac or Noah

If you really want a place how about Jericho/Jerica or Phillip/Phillipa?

woowa · 13/08/2011 21:50

thanks saffroncake. It's funny, i'm not wild on ordinary greek names which are in the bible. I love the crazy OT names which have God-centred meaning!

SaffronCake · 13/08/2011 13:29

Julia's in Romans 16:15
