I couldn't do it. It was very important to me that my children had names with lovely meanings. Mind you, until I started looking at baby name books, I had no idea what half of them meant, so my DDs probably won't care a jot.

ds1- flax
ds2- man of god
ds3- healer

ohhhhh Soren is a fab name!!!

ds3 was very, very nearly called Soren (if you search you can probably still find threads by me on here agonising over his name) after Kierkegaard!

My own name means Golden Princess in my native language.
Unfortunately in another language it means foreskin.

I'd only avoid a name if it actually sounded like something unpleasant. But in that case it wouldn't be a discovery and I wouldn't have liked it in the first place.

Soren was the name of my much adored grandfather and we almost gave it to dh. It is a very traditional name in Denmark I knowseveral (I have a cousin and a friend with a son called it)

ds didnt feel like a Soren so we used the femine version "Sorine" for middle name for dd3 I am actually a bit sad we didnt give it to her for her first name as I so adore it.

If it helps every single Soren I have known have been gentle wonderful completely loveable men/boys..

I would 100% do it

When choosing DC4's name I found one place said it meant "big of hand" Not both hands, mind, just one huge one. Still went for it Grin

my dd1 is Claudia (nearly 11yo) she loves her name & is v. interested in its history (Emperor Claudius & his disabilities) - I don't think that lame is an unfortunate meaning though!
