I LOVE this name, popular in 1800's as far as I can tell? Jesse for short? But what would you think if you heard it, or if you know a Jessamy, what did you think?

It's a boys name btw.

I actually like it, but only know it as a boy's name. I wouldn't use it though, bit out there. If I met a female Jessamy I'd assume her parents had got confused.

I think it's a lovely name for a girl (though I marginally prefer Jessamyn or Jessamine)

It's an old English form of Jasmine.

I wouldn't use it for a boy though.

I met a Jessamy once; she would be in her early 30s now and came from Australia. So it sounds like a girls name to me. Just my view; if you love it, go for it!

No, no, no as a boy's name, it sounds very feminine to me, although I've never heard of it before. Namecalling potential too, a right Jessie.

It's nice but I thought it was a girls' name.

Josiah, Joshua, Jasper, Jedediah, Jared, Jerome, Justin?

I knew a Jessamy who would have been born in the 1920's - female though. She was always known as Sally and I didn't know her real name until her funeral.

I knew a Jessamy at school- she was in my sisters year. So Girl's name imo.

madwomanintheattic · 07/08/2011 23:51

my sister was going to use jessamy for a girl.

fortunately she had a boy.

the entire family was much relieved. it may well have been popular in the 1800s (?) but to my uncultured ears it sounded like a cut and shut made up name a la kortneemai or kyleeann.

probably says more about me. but hey ho.

Just googled and a few Jessamy's now who are all girls now, you're right. But in the book I read Jessamy was a man, so wonder if it crossed over as a name? Hmmm... damn!
