I LOVE this name, popular in 1800's as far as I can tell? Jesse for short? But what would you think if you heard it, or if you know a Jessamy, what did you think?

It's a boys name btw.

We considered Jesse for a boy.
When I saw Jessamy written down it made me think of Jezabel which I really, really seriously considered!

RickGhastley · 04/01/2012 13:49

I know 2 little girls called Jessamy, would assume it is a girl's name.

I do like Jesse for a boy- very cool!!

Mi4 · 04/01/2012 13:39

I know a Jezsemma - I think you have to be a certain level of "cool" to carry it off as an adult, but the one I know is so it's all good :)

Mackrelmint · 04/01/2012 13:38

I knew a girl Jessamy at school.

I like Jesse for a boy. Makes me think of Jesse James rather than 'you big jessie' type teasing. I'm not sure whether it would have those connotations for next generation anyway?

greenmoo · 04/01/2012 12:39

Have never met one in real life, only know it from the baby name book, love it for a girl, would use it but DP isn't keen.

YankNCock · 04/01/2012 11:24

I knew a female Jessamy a few years back who was in her early 20s. I thought it was a nice name, a bit unusual.

guinealady · 04/01/2012 11:13

I've only recently met a real life Jessamy but she seemed very nice and I think it's a rather pretty name. She's known as Jess or Jessie interchangeably from what I can tell.

RillaBlythe · 04/01/2012 11:08

its a boys name in georgette heyer...

Mulchee · 04/01/2012 05:48

I think it's a beautiful name, but if it's a variant of Jasmine, why on earth would it be a boys name? I have met 3 females with this name.

Grockle · 09/08/2011 21:47

I loved the book Jessamy too and always wanted to name a DD Jessamy. I have a DS though.

WetAugust · 09/08/2011 21:44

Jessamine - great song by the Casuals

Bonsoir · 09/08/2011 09:08

I seriously considered Jessamy for DD - it was on my shortlist. Love it.

NadiaWadia · 09/08/2011 02:19

It sounds definitely feminine - Jess + Amy

Dexifehatz · 09/08/2011 00:29

I have a friend called Jesszemma-always loved it.

GrumbleBee · 08/08/2011 21:14

I've only heard of it as a boy's name, but I never knew a real one - it was a character in a book, and was set in about 1800, just as you say. ('Frederica', by the very fabulous Georgette Heyer.)

I like it but it sounds like it's more commonly a girl's name now. Do you like Jesse? Or Jeremy?

pranma · 08/08/2011 18:54

Oh gosh NO not for a boy please-Jesse if you must

pranma · 08/08/2011 18:53

beautiful name

SaffronCake · 08/08/2011 18:05

I've met a Jessame (pronounced the same), she'd be about 13 now and she's American.

Ephiny · 08/08/2011 13:20

Never heard of this either. I would prefer Jessamine for a girl. Not sure about Jessamy for a boy - I probably would have guessed boy when I saw it, but many people might associate it more with girl's names like Jessamine, Jessica etc.

JanMorrow · 08/08/2011 13:15

I have a friend called Jessamy (a girl) and she loves her name, always gets complimented on it. I've never heard it for a boy.

MooMooFarm · 08/08/2011 13:10

I love it but definitely think of it as a girls name. We considered it for our DD as I loved Jessica but it was a bit too popular at the time....

MamaLazarou · 08/08/2011 13:06

Never heard this name - sounds pretty as a girls' name, IMO.

Bandwithering · 08/08/2011 13:03

I quite like it. Prefer it to Jessica actually. It's a nicer sound.

It is like Jedward a bit. A combo of names. I'm not kn ocking that. I think there has to be a baby born called Jedward soon.

pommedechocolat · 08/08/2011 12:13

We are considering Jessie for a girl and I also like Jessa. Not so sure about Jessamy though and I would say definitely a girl's name.

ShoutyHamster · 08/08/2011 11:33

Actually lovely for a girl, especially as lots of good shortenings - Jess, Jessie, Mimi, Sam.

A bit of a stretch for a boy - go for Jesse - fab.
