There are some very unusual names which I love,so it's not I'm objecting to their rarity,they're just horrid sounding names.

Don't like Dymoke. Marmion, maybe, if you are going very literary. I don't think it shortens very well for a boy, though. Ivanhoe? Rob Roy? Ahem.

More serious suggestions - Gabriel, Melchior, Peregrine, Caspian, Raphael.

OK fair enough, my comments were perhaps a little harsh. The name thread is always a mine field though. You will always find people like me who can't resist being a bit sarcastic or flippant. I am sorry for upsetting you.

The best advice would probably be not to ask people what they think until your child arrives and has been given a name. The chances are that by then everyone will be polite enough to be kind etc. As long as you don't call your child 'Megatron' or Lamp Shade' they'll probably survive what ever you call them.

On reflection, if I had to pick between the two, I think I'd go for Dymoke as it sounds kinda Old English/Welsh and could be shortened to Dy if you wanted. It's also a bit crazy but not in a completely mental or strange way.

Marmion can't be shortened and just doesn't trip off the tongue very well for me. It does have the Marmite thing going on as well which would put me off too.

Dymoke wins.
