Searching for the impossible of boy's names!

Sorry, it's another help I don't like any boys names thread Smile

So the criteria is - A name you've heard of but isn't often used these days.

We want to stay away from anything he (if it is a he!) would be picked on for (DH had a hard time at school with his name)

I only really like one name so far, which is Dexter, but DH is having a hard time coming round to it as he just thinks serial killer when he hears it!

We have a DD already called Faye, and so would like to avoid another one sylable name if possible.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!!

Oh I wasn't slating the names. I was just saying that if the OP is looking for a non-popular name, Harrison is not the way to go. Not round our way at least, nor in the NW where we were.

Oh and about 3yrs ago, the class I taught had 4 Olivers in a class of 28!

Ok, Ellen, maybe I'm exaggerating a tiny bit. But, it is really popular where we are (Sussex) and was really popular where we used to live (Cheshire). The year we moved, DS had one in his class and DD1 had two! Now there is none in DS's class but one in DD1's and another in the nursery class. Plus I know of another 3 (all under 5) from outside school.

If he likes Seth how about Sebastian with Seb as a nn? Then you get more than one syllable Smile

FWIW though, Dexter's on our shortlist too. I love it.

Spottyfrock! Don't talk nonsense, most infant classes have about 15 boys. One in each is 1:15 of all boys born. Even the top name Oliver is only given to 1 in every 44 boys, so likely to be only one in 3 classes. Harrison is 1:190, so in a school of approx 380 children, one will be called Harrison.

Oo I do like Sirius though, I noticed on the name stats out last week that there were a couple born last year. It's a nice astrological name (if you don't mind the Harry Potter connection).

Harrison? Really, Phin? Harrisons are everywhere at the moment. Most infant classes have at least one.

I love Seth but we live in SE and I couldn't bear a lifetime of Seff....

What about Simon? I've never met a little one but it's my Bils name and he's often called Sim which is cool (never Si which I'm not keen on).

Howard was also my top name for DD as I thought Howie was super cool, I also like James but shortened to Jimmy which you don't hear much.

I you scroll towards the bottom of the table (i.e. past the top 100 names) you'll find lots of underused lovely names.

Dexter is in the top 100 for 2010, probably because of that programme. So it fails on the 'not often used' requirement.
