Both DH and mine nans where/are Marys, we want somehow to include it in DC name (if girl obviously)

But as a first name it's just to - bluh.
We could use it as a middle name just as Mary

But have MN got any other names that are like/related to/variations of Mary to use as a first name.

Oh and not Marie (a hideous aunt - shudders at thought)

Mariah?

FWIW I like Mary on its own.

clippityclop · 09/08/2011 20:06

I love Mary too, something refreshingly unusual but unpretentious about it, and because you can't really shorten it. Dd1's middle name is Mary re her great-grandma.

Bandwithering · 09/08/2011 19:59

I like Mairead but that is Margaret not Mary.

Bandwithering · 09/08/2011 19:58

I love Marianne, Maribel and Mariella

Mary just Mary has a certain impact though. It's so simple and unpretentious that it does stand out amongst a sea of Julias and Amelias and Isabellas and so on.

youmeupstrairsnow · 05/08/2011 14:14

printed of the list and gave it to DH think he was overwhelmed by choice - but thank you, I'm sure out of them we will find something.

thecatisdead ummm thanks??

Don't like hyphenated names WaitingforBabyD and pranma- so that is out, thanks

People seem to like Mary as a first name, maybe we were too quick to get rid of it (would have to think hard about middle name to break up mary and my surname)

Thank you :)

I love Mary as a first name. It's wonderful.
You could run the risk of doing the ch-word thing and spell it "Merry".
I have a 50yo friend with that spelling.
Has no one suggested Rosemary? Get the best nns that way.

WaitingForBabyD · 05/08/2011 08:38
