I haven't met anyone who likes the name Ned yet...

I am thinking of naming dc3 who is going to be a boy - Ned. Most people I mention it to say a quiet 'oh' and say 'as in Ned the donkey?'

Am I pregnancy mad? I thought it was a nice sweet short name for a boy. I had lots of shortlists for dd1 and dd2 and no problem naming them. I'm finding boys name a tad trickier...

Have a nephew called George also a great name and not too many around,a good traditional name ,my potential Ned ended up a GuyWink

I love the name Ned and really wanted to call ds3 Ned.Dh hated it though so it was a no no.I do like his eventual name which was also single syllable but also still regularly look at him and think he would have made a great Ned .

I know 2 neds age 7/8 in my ds class and they are both great kids with great names! Never heard of the chav thing from Scotland here in Surrey! Think it's a great name myself.

I do. We will more then likely go with Edward if this one is a boy and Ned is my preferred nn. Not in Scotland but Scottish roots and couldn't give a toss!

Oh dear. The chav links have put me off... What on earth am I going to name this child? What do you all think of George? Would it abbreviate to anything?

My godson is Edward - Ned for short, it suits him perfectly. There will always be someone who has something to say about the name you choose.

Where I grew up (Scotland) 'Ned' meant a sort of 'chav' (todays equivalent)
