DS due 7 weeks... Monty or Jesse?

Just getting opinions.. I like both but love one and I wonder general consensus. I realise not to everyone's taste but more 'traditionally' chosen boy's names aren't for me ('traditionally' meaning more commonplace I guess, as of course, Jesse is very 'traditional' in a biblical sense..) Thanks in advance...

Definitely Jesse - think of Jesse Spencer (Dr Chase in House/Billy from Neighbours).

Our pet mouse was called Monty...... Marshall Montgomery, Monty Burns...nope...

rachel234 · 03/08/2011 19:10

Jesse is too girly for me (too close to Jess/Jessica), I'm afraid. I quite like Monty though.

noddyholder · 03/08/2011 19:03

Def Jesse but I am biased Wink

exoticfruits · 03/08/2011 19:02

I don't like either.

I am not a big fan of Jesse but if the only other option is Monty, please call him Jesse.
Sorry, but Monty is just wrong.

BulletWithAName · 03/08/2011 12:01

Monty is Boden wearing loud parenting twattery. Poor bastard, it's a vile , vile name FFS!

Agree. Although I do love Monty Burns Grin

ShoutyHamster · 03/08/2011 11:47

Sorry MONTY. I assume a lot of them are Montgomerys. They could be Montmorency of course!

ShoutyHamster · 03/08/2011 11:46

Jesse is lovely!

Montgomery very try-hard, getting pretty popular now.

truthisinthewine · 03/08/2011 08:52

Definately Jesse I live this name. I am expecting a DD but if she turns out to be a he then I will be pushing DH to use this as I love it. Monty is awful in comparison.

scarlettlips · 03/08/2011 08:46

It would appear to me OP...that you LOVE Jesse!

So go for that..you don't need us lot to convince you Grin Grin

TillyIpswitch · 03/08/2011 02:52

I think of Jesse as a very cool boy's name, but then I'm Antipodean, so it probably has different connotations. I know a male Kim too and he was extraordinarily good looking, very masculine but lovely, and cool/suave.

Dunno where I'm going with this train of thought Grin ... but maybe 'feminine' names produce a certain type of very assured boy/man.

Yes, Monty is a). a dog's name, b). very, very middle class and, yes, c). a terrible c*.

Jesse is definitely a name which splits people it seems.. a 'Marmite' name.. rather than the type of name which most people like but not so many people actually 'love'

BulletWithAName · 03/08/2011 00:22

Jesse- I absolutely love this name.

Bandwithering · 02/08/2011 23:14

but... I don't like names like Bailey and Casey and [thinks hard] other unisex names on girls.

my x bil had a girls name. he carried it off well because he was tall and confident, played football.

andypandypuddle · 02/08/2011 23:12

Bandwithering - :)... Same here with the unisex thing..

OP posts:
Bandwithering · 02/08/2011 23:10

Jesse of course. I like that unisex vibe, bit like the lady on another board with a Christy and a kerry. I like Kim for a boy too.

Monty/Montgomery is not great. Sounds like you are obsessed with the second world war.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 02/08/2011 22:50

Monty is, to me, dog or possibly horse name. don't like it.

Jesse is a good name but yes, he WILL get the piss taken out of him at school for having a girls name. here in my bit of scotland the phrase "you big jesse" is an insult aimed at men who are, ahem, too much in touch with their feminine side - even though i like it, i wouldn't use it.

I do love Jared tho - KoL fan here!
Jedediah makes me think of Owen Wilson in Night at the Museum.

andypandypuddle · 02/08/2011 22:49

instant.. I like Isaac from your list..

andypandypuddle · 02/08/2011 22:45

Laydee - lovely to hear positive stories about Jesse.. I absolutely love it and I think it will take a lot to swing me away from it..

InstantAtom · 02/08/2011 22:42

I prefer Jesse, but I agree that unfortunately, many people will find it feminine-sounding.

Monty is a bit pretentious IMHO.

How about Jacob, Jerome, Saul, Elliot, Felix, Levi, Isaac, Jared, Joshua, Jedediah (Jed)?

Wallissimpson · 02/08/2011 22:29

Monty makes me shudder, sorry. It's, "Look at me how middle clarss I am" in buckets.
Plus, Monty is a pasty loser kid.

Jesse is a cool cowboy Grin
