I realize who Aeneas was. I'm asking if that is a name here and now. As in, chosen by non-cruel parents to name English children in the 21st century.

I suggested it for DC1, but husband thought it was too close to "anus."

When I was at school, there was a plaque commemmorating a Victorian former pupil Aeneas somebody-or-other and I think seeing it every day at school in gold paint imprinted it on me as a good name.

Do you mean Anais? Or is it pronounced as it's spelled, in which case it's a bit too similar to anus imo.

Oh, just realised it's a boys name, Greek, meaning 'to be worthy of praise'. Still not sure how it sounds though.

Back to the drawing board.

Damm you Pen! We hadn't thought of the "anus" nickname.

Oh, and when we were performing Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, we - very maturely - would refer to it as Dildo and Anus.

What larks.

WeDONTneedanotherhero · 02/08/2011 13:24

LOL yes Cote

Yup, a Roman name, mythical founder of Rome, etc. etc.

Haven't you read your Virgil, Cote? Wink

Penthesileia · 02/08/2011 13:23

Well, given that our nickname for Aeneas when we were reading the Aeneid at school was "Anus", I'd personally steer clear.

But, you know, lots of names have potentially dodgy nicknames, so whatever floats your boat!

How about Anchises? Astyanax? Wink

CoteDAzur · 02/08/2011 13:21

Is that a name?
