I want a girls name that if nice for a baby but will be something classy, beautiful and elegant when she is older.
I'm really not into 'faddy' kind of names and don't want a really popular one.

Names I like so far include

Harriet
Eliza
Beatrice
Georgia
Elizabeth
Charlotte

Names I would consider but don't like as much as the ones I just listed

Catherine
Louise

Any more suggestions you think I'd like?????

Lucy. Works every time. Gorgeous name. Adult or child.

Catherine - maybe not in view of la Middleton, but gorgeous, classic and timeless. Great diminutives.

DD1 is Lucy, DD2 is not Catherine, but nearly was and I wish I had gone with that rather than our eventual choice (which I love but just prefer Catherine 4 years on).

dancingmummy · 28/07/2011 16:05

Amelia!

Pootles2010 · 28/07/2011 16:02

I'd add Rebecca - it's quite timeless, and it's number 82 at the moment. Oh and it's my name :o

msbuggywinkle · 28/07/2011 16:01

Hel-eh-na here. Thus allowing us to call her Nell!

GetOffOfMyCloud · 28/07/2011 15:53

You're welcome, that's just the version I know though, I think any of them could be considered correct. Actually I'd forgotten about Hel-ee-na rather than Hel-ay-na anyway.

stardustn · 28/07/2011 15:48

Thanks GetOffMyCloud :)
It's one of those names that has several pronounciations- Hel-ay-na, Hel-ee-na, HELL-eh-na, (and there are probably even more!) and I was just wondering which one mrsbuggywinkle's dd was :)

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 28/07/2011 15:45

Elizabeth
Katherine
Anne
Sophia
Louise

GetOffOfMyCloud · 28/07/2011 15:44

stardustn i think (but don't hold me to it) that it's pronounced
He LAY na
so that the "he" is a short sound a bit like the start of the word pen. I knew someone who pronounced it like that but I'm not sure if it would be the same in the UK or not.

Suncottage · 28/07/2011 15:31

Fiona
Emma
Rosalind
Rose
Sarah
Anne

stardustn · 28/07/2011 15:26

How do you pronounce Helena msbuggywinkle?

EldritchCleavage · 28/07/2011 15:25

Caroline
Marguerite
Rebecca
Susannah
Catriona

msbuggywinkle · 28/07/2011 15:24

You like a lot of the same names as me!

DD1 is Helena
DD2 is Felicity
If DC3 is a girl, she'll be Miranda.

princessdave · 28/07/2011 15:04

I'm a Louise and I love it (but I hate having Sarah as my middle name as every Sarah I've ever met is Sarah Louise!) Louisa also runs in our family. Eloise is also lovely. Some really nice suggestions here - Eleanor, Imogen, Helena. Oh and Alice is nice too. I'm currently working on DH should we have a girl next month; Elodie. He's breaking but I'm happy to use it as a middle name if he really isn't keen :)

kat2504 · 28/07/2011 15:00

I love the name Eleanor, also like Evelyn, Imogen and Beatrice. Not keen on Georgia/Georgina.
