Crisis! Name wobble-baby 11 days old. Please help!

our daughter is now 11 days old and we're worried we may have chosen the wrong name. Don't know what to do!
I think We have two options:

change it and face short term embarrassment/criticism
keep the name as it is, have courage in our convictions and learn to live with the fact that we may have made the wrong decision

So we chose the name Madeleine instead of Miranda. I'm now worried that Madeleine is a bit popular and also it's caused so many problems spelling-wise and it's only been a week. My DH couldn't even remember how to spell it when telling the health visitor! We decided that Madeleine was better for a newborn but when I have my sensible hat on I realise that babies/children grow into their names.

Wwyd? I'm feeling very stressed about it as well as hormonal and exhausted! Please help!

I love both names. The only thing that MIGHT make me not have Miranda, is if some clever dick in yr 7 decided that they was going to give her the nick name Randy!

They are both lovely names.

But change it if that's your gut feeling - I know some parents who did this. They had a bit of confusion for a short while, then it was fine.

It sounds as if you both prefer Miranda? If it's bothering you that much change it now before it's too late

I much prefer Miranda to Madeleine

Don't worry a name being popular - your Baby M? will be the only one made my you and your DH and will always be unique!!

I think if both of you prefer Miranda you have to change it. You will always look back and wish that you had, the sooner you do it the better. I think both names are ok but never know how to spell Madeleine as there are so many different ways and also agree that it is way more popular there are so many Maddie's around.

I prefer Miranda,but they are both lovely.The question is more which do you prefer and which do you think suits her best? My dd had no name at all until she was 6 weeks so its not too late to change it if you aren't sure!

We had friends who changed their baby's name afterwards. Rather than have a name you don't like, I would change. (Although I do think Madeleine is a gorgeous name)

If you prefer Miranda then change it. Personally I think Madeleine is much nicer.

Leaving aside spelling (which people will learn), or what's best for a newborn (as you say she will grow), which do you think is the nicest name?

It sounds like you both prefer Miranda and the only reason you don't want to change it is just the short term embarrassment thing. That's a rubbish reason! And "learn to live with the fact we may have made the wrong decision" sounds like you really prefer Miranda - how awful to regret your daughter's name for the rest of your life. Just change it if you both prefer Miranda.

i like madeleine better than miranda tbh

i would stick to that name if it were me but if you really feel you have made the wrong choice then change the name...who cares what everyone else says...shes your DD

Madeleine is a lovely name. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!

You can think about it for a while, you can change her name fairly easily before the age of one.
