you guys are fab, it is so good to get different opinions.

we had decided against miles, because we thought it sounded a little bit 'posh' and we are keen not to give baby any reason to be picked on if we can help it. We are aware that this might be rediculous Smile. HOWEVER, it is back on the list now after so many nice comments Grin

so thank you!

I like Joseph and Benjamin from your boys' list. From your girls names I love Erin, and like Heather and Emma. The Heather I know is 9 and utterly lovely :).

WiiUnfit · 24/07/2011 21:51

Eskimo, both of the Heather's I know are more circa 1990s Wink

Excellent taste flatstomach!! Wink I have only met two other Esme's since she was born and I chose Esme from a list including Camille and Claudia and I went for it because the lady who does the hearing tests in the hospital said she'd never heard of one. Then we told SIL her name who informed us that Esme was the name she wanted for her future child and was really pissed off about it - although she has no intentions of ever being pregnant...

Flatstomachenomore · 24/07/2011 21:11

Fanjo, what a small world...I had a Grace (b 2001) when not too popular and I also have an Esme born a few years later. There aren't any others round here, but according to mn it's becoming super popular!

LynetteScavo · 24/07/2011 16:54

Joseph is lovely.

The others are nice but dull.

EskimoPie · 24/07/2011 16:52

Heather should be born 1960...

WiiUnfit · 24/07/2011 16:35

Boys
Adam - a nice, what I would call 'classic' name that won't date
Archie - I heard a Mum call her Son this today, DP & I commented on how 'middle class wannabe' it sounded (sorry, it may have just been the voice she used to be fair!)
Benjamin - love it, again a 'classic', I would love to use it but we have a B surname that makes it sound like Benjamin Button!
Charlie - v. cute but I fear it will date, I think it goes well with Thomas though
Jamie - an idiotic ex of mine so it has bad connotations for me but it is a lovely name
Joseph - will always be shortened to 'Joe' no matter how hard you try
Matthew - again, will always become 'Matt' but a nice name nonetheless
Miles - quite cute & unusual but not for me I'm afraid

Girls
Charlotte - a 'classic', lovely
Emma - a bit overused IMO
Erin - becoming v.popular, I love it but a chav girl I know from school has just used it :(
Heather - lovely name, I know two who are also both lovely

Martha85 · 24/07/2011 16:01

Joseph or Matthew, they would go well with Thomas.
Joseph Anthony is my favourite combination.
Not really keen on the girls names, sorry.

Lonnie · 24/07/2011 15:53

I se that list and think safe choices..

Personally I prefeer more different names so out of that list Miles wins hands down I wouldnt care for any of the girls names they are just to safe for me

superjobee · 24/07/2011 15:38

adam and erin :) i love erin Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2011 15:35

I like Adam best from the boys' list and Heather from the girls' but I like Emma and Charlotte too. Don't like Archie, Jamie or Charlie.

pilates · 24/07/2011 15:31

I like all your names except Miles and Heather, but as it's a family name I would use Miles as a middle name so I think I would choose Joseph Miles and Charlotte May, not sure if May is a family name too. Also like Charlotte Jane, Charlotte Louisa and Charlotte Alice.

BulletWithAName · 24/07/2011 15:08

Love Miles, but prefer it spelt Myles. Probably because that's how my favourite singer spells it Blush

PaperBank · 24/07/2011 14:43

Adam - OK
Archie - a bit overdone now, old man nickname fad
Benjamin - OK
Charlie - like but would have Charles on BC
Jamie - like with James on BC
Joseph - like
Matthew - OK
Miles - like

Charlotte - like
Emma - like
Erin - dislike
Heather - OK

MilkNoSugarPlease · 24/07/2011 13:41

Emma!

It's classic, suits babies, children and adults, it's not that common anymore

Oh, and it's my name! Therefore, utterly perfect :o

fannybanjo · 24/07/2011 13:41

I have Grace (DD1) - in 2002 it was around number 25 in the Top 100. It bloody shot up to number 1 when she was 5 and I cursed but never regretted using it as it's a timeless name. However I did go for less popular names with DDs 2 and DD3 and woe and behold Dd3's name (Esme) I'm hearing more and more...Hmm.

Is Miles a bit pretentious though? That's what is worrying us a little bit.....

supadupapupascupa · 24/07/2011 13:37

scarlettsmummy2 May, Anthony and Miles are all family names and would be very sentimental... not the best i agree but the best of a bad bunch Grin

fannybanjo · 24/07/2011 13:37

I do love Charlotte. So many nn for it too.

supadupapupascupa · 24/07/2011 13:35

I have loads of girls names but this is the list that DH has agreed to. I like freya and bryony and lauren. I think our fav is charlotte at the moment shortened to either lottie or charlie.

It's the boys i'm struggling with, i used my favourite on DS1! Smile

By different or unusual btw, I don't mean weird or unused names. I just avoid names that have quite a good chance of there being a few in the class. Emma B, Emma G and Emma Glasses for example (my niece's class). It's just all a bit samey.

I've said it before on here but it's like stripped wooden floors, off white walls and a bit of nice art on the walls. It looks good sure, popular for a reason, not particularly offensive but dear God it's becoming dull.

fannybanjo · 24/07/2011 13:35

You can't go wrong with traditional in my opinion. There's a reason why names get popular and it's usually because they're the best of the few decent names we can realistically use without looking like nutters!
