Cuthbert?

Too pretentious?

nn Bertie

I'm assuming the Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb thing is far too old to be remembered by next generation.

It was OH's grandfathers name so its not just random, but I am unconvinced at present, any thoughts?

Horrible, definitely not! With all due respect for your DH's grandfather, Cuthbert is definitely a name that was of its time, and has not transferred smoothly through the generations...

Kaekae · 18/07/2012 13:35

Emmm....No. Makes me cringe.

PerfectStranger74 · 18/07/2012 10:59

Mmm, don't like it at all, reminds me of the soft kid in The Beano

sparkle12mar08 · 18/07/2012 10:49

Can I keep banging the drum for Cully as a nn for Cuthbert? It's not all that bad at all imo.

As for Zombie threads, well at least it saves starting new threads and one can gather new opinions developed since the thread started?

WithACherryOnTop · 17/07/2012 22:05

Zombie thread again. Who keeps digging up these old threads? What is the bloody point!?

WithACherryOnTop · 17/07/2012 22:03

No,no,no,no and no! It's beyond awful. It has to be one of the least attractive names ever. I hate Bertie too,but even that on the BC would be better than Cuthbert.

AnnaNimitty · 17/07/2012 21:59

Don't like Cuthbert, but Humphrey is quite cool....

exoticfruits · 17/07/2012 21:57

No - not fair to a child.

WerthersUnOriginal · 17/07/2012 21:39

I think this takes ironic old man/lady names to it's last possible and awful conclusion.

ellesabe · 17/07/2012 21:38

My dh suggested this as a joke and was a bit Hmm when I said I liked it! Blush

SugarBatty · 17/07/2012 21:06

workshy · 17/07/2012 20:58

when we were kids, a cuthbert was the polite term used to describe a FART!!!

if you like Bertie, go with Albert

perplexedpirate · 17/07/2012 20:57

Heaven forfend!

nellyjelly · 17/07/2012 20:56

Sorry I seem to have reserrected a threadnfrom 2011! Please ignore!

PaddingtonBare · 17/07/2012 20:53

I like it - but I wouldn't use it myself as I'm a bit too "safe"

nellyjelly · 17/07/2012 20:50

Cuthbert is a good old Northumbrian name. St Cuthbert was from there. I like it.

InstantAtom · 26/07/2011 17:14

I've heard of Puff the Magic Dragon, not Cuthbert though

oiwheresthecoffee · 26/07/2011 16:26

Cuthbert the magic dragon anyone ?

doesntfitin · 26/07/2011 16:09

bloody awful

redheadbedhead · 26/07/2011 16:09

No no no no, no no no-no. No? No.

what was that you said? No?

No.

SkiBumMum · 26/07/2011 16:06

Loving the Anne of Green Gables references! Have suggested Marilla or Small Anne Cordelia to DH but not being a Kindred Spirit, he is less than convinced Smile

Merle · 26/07/2011 14:56

We considered it for one if our lads. We liked the Celtic/Northumbrian connection. The problem is that it is too lispy - I struggle to pronounce it, let alone a child. Think of another.

narmada · 26/07/2011 14:42

Absolutely bloody awful. Please don't do it to your beautiful boy!
