Is Jackson a Scottish name? Confused

I like it well enough, but prefer Lachlan - but only spelled like that. Sorry.

ragged · 23/07/2011 19:27

I like Lochlan :).
How many people know what Lochia is?
(I just asked DH what Lochia is, he had no idea, we have 4 children, he attended all of their births!)

Bandwithering · 23/07/2011 19:03

I thought of Lochia too.

So Jackson.

SpottyFrock · 23/07/2011 16:08

But lynn, if you want it go be Scottish you have to spell it Lachlan. It is not Scottish to spell it lochlan though as previously mentioned, I think in Ireland they spell it lochlann with the double n.

PeopleCallMeTricky · 23/07/2011 14:07

Jackson is awful imo, to me it seems so...unnecessary, why not Jack or any other first name instead of a surname? I would judge you I'm afraid Blush

Lachlan is better.

LisMcA · 23/07/2011 14:02

AFAIK Jackson isn't a Scottish name, I'm sorry. A qucik Google shows it's English in Origin

LisMcA · 23/07/2011 13:58

Are you Scottish? Will you pronounce it Lock-Lan or Loch (I can't type the crrrhh sound)-Lan, but I hope you know what I mean.

If it's the crrrhh sound then Lochlan, if not Jackson.

lynn7300 · 23/07/2011 13:56

we want a scottish name....and jackson is a scottish name and lochlan......plus our surname is douglass...so has to go with that

Giving surnames as first names is a long-standing tradition in the North East of England.

I don't like it much, but it's not new and it's not American.

Nightstar · 23/07/2011 11:02

I hate this new American trend of using surnames as first names. Jackson is a surname, I really dislike it being used as a first name, but thats a personal opinion.

On the other hand, I think Lochlan is a fantastic name, very romantic hero

roguepixie · 22/07/2011 20:34

Lachlan. Defo. Grin

PaperBank · 22/07/2011 20:34

But why not just Jack?

PaperBank · 22/07/2011 20:34

Out of the two.... Jackson.

jellybeans · 22/07/2011 20:28

Definately jackson.

susiedaisy · 22/07/2011 19:58

Lachlan, although I have also seen it spelt lachlain, not keen on Jackson

ImpyCelyn · 22/07/2011 19:56

Lochlan - so much better than Jackson.

Amapoleon · 22/07/2011 19:53

Jackson.

SheCutOffTheirTails · 22/07/2011 19:51

Lachlan by a mile.

Jackson is terrible.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 22/07/2011 19:47

???? Sorry bloody pred text. Spell with a not o Smile

musttidyupmusttidyup · 22/07/2011 19:47

If you choose Lachlan spell Luke this nit loch an which reminds me too of lochia. Sorry. Also can shorten Jack but prob not Lac? So, Jackson.

ensure · 22/07/2011 19:42

I prefer Jackson.

Moanna · 22/07/2011 19:22

DS is Lochlann (Irish) which I do prefer to Jackson.

SpottyFrock · 22/07/2011 19:17

I think I would spell it Lachlan as it's a Scottish name and that's how they spell it but as I say, I have seen it spelt lochlan. It's definitely nicer than Jackson but Jackson isn't too bad compared to other surnames used as forenames.
