Down to two boys names which one to choose......

Right we have narrowed it down to two names.......and what a nightmare it has been...now we are stuck and cant decide.....

Lochan

or

Jackson

Lachlan or Lochlan. Jackson is a surname, which sound a little Hmm to me.

I prefer Jackson. Ive never heard of anyone being called Lachlan before.

lchodge, Lachie or Lochie is the nn for Lachlan or Lochlan. Why would Lochy be a terrible nn? The Lochlan I taught was always called Lochy by his parents and friends in class.

Lochlan, definitely. There was a Lochlan in Home & Away when I was younger and he got called "Locky" or "Lacky" (it was hard to tell with the accent)

Don't think Lochlan works as a first name I would worry kids would nn him 'Lochy' ?? I would also spell it with an A.

We're Irish and DS is called Lochlann. Since we've had him I have heard of three more, two are friends of friends and also an older man. The older man gets called Lochie (sp?) as a nickname.

The Irish word is Lochlann. It's pronounced "Luchlann". And it is the word for viking. I've never heard of an Irish child called Lochlann.

The Scottish version Lachlan is way nicer as a name.

It's hardly as if 'lochia' is a daily reference in most people's lives though, is it? Even if you are aware of its existence it's unlikely to come to mind immediately in relation to a child's name. That aside, Lachlan is my preference and the traditional/established spelling is better. As Tortoise said, you're going to end up 'correcting' everyone's spelling of it otherwise.

Jackson is soaring up the popularity charts precisely because everyone has gone "oh I like Jack but it's too common". Don't do it. It's vile. Also there are lots of horrible alternative spellings. I'm seeing "Jaxon" far too often for my liking.

Lachlan is lovely, and actually Scottish. Lochlan is going to doom your child to a lifetime of having his name misspelt (i.e., spelt Lachlan, which is how it's spelt).

Jackson is just a variation on Jack, lovely enough, but overused.

Jackson is way better. Lochlan/Lachlan is a clumsy looking name. Sorry, but it's a horrible name to me! We have a Jackson in the family, great name!

I too can't abide this surname as forename business. And it will be shortened to Jack anyway. Every other boy is called Jack.

Lachlan, definitely Lachlan.

I like both actually but I think Lochlan/ Lachlan is nicer- Scottish not American, very cute on a boy but distinguished on a bloke!

And please don't blame Jackson on us Scots Grin. There are many wonderful scottish names rather than using a surname.

Lochlan is not a name, Lachlan is and once again, more commonly a surname that is becoming more widely used as a first name. It is however LACHLAN not lochlan
