Here's the baby name I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think.

Girls
Araminta

I love the name!

muminthemiddle · 29/07/2011 12:07

I am loving this name. It was one of the characters in a book I read. she was rich and posh!

Mrsdp123 · 28/07/2011 22:29

I really like the name Araminta. It was on my list of girls names along with Felicity, Pippa (until the Royal wedding, I can't stand P-Middy) and Henrietta..My husband is delighted we are having a boy as we at least agree on some names....

Oopsie · 27/07/2011 19:19

I like it, although I do tend to go for those sort of fancy, slightly out-there, girls' names.

Did you ever see the BBC drama 'Moon Dial' as a child? There was an Araminta in that, known as Minty for short.

BunnyP · 26/07/2011 20:27

Very much like it and the abbreviation to Minty

redheadbedhead · 23/07/2011 07:04

definitely female equivalent of Tarquin... sorry... Sad

ScrambledSmegs · 21/07/2011 15:40

Ha ha! I did put the link in to Moondial. FWIW, it was a novel by Helen Cresswell that was adapted by the BBC in the 80's and shown on Children's BBC. I remember it well, was spooky and terrific. And the name of the leading character was Araminta, shortened to Minty.

I am not suggesting the OP calls her DD Moondial! Grin

Moondial was the tv programme with Minty in it, no?

Minty will always be from Eastenders and I don't even watch it!

BulletWithAName · 21/07/2011 15:06

Awful. But then I hate all pretentious names.

Hevian · 21/07/2011 15:05

MOONDIAL ??

Speechless

Eviemama · 21/07/2011 14:47

It's a real name, Hevian.

I liked Moondial too and I did know one or two in the 80s so I agree that it's due for a revival.

We're not really posh, zozzle Ordinary middle class. I had a horrible realisation yesterday that it might be a female equivalent of Tarquin from what some people were saying? Wondering whether to show dh the thread.

Araminta !! Are people trying to find the most ridiculous words to turn into childrens' names or what.

Polominta is much better.

zozzle · 21/07/2011 13:14

If in public school will probably mix well with all the Henriettas and Constances! Would steer clear unless you're really posh.

If, on the otherhand, you are really posh then go for it!

noddyholder · 20/07/2011 19:51

I know 2 One nn Minty teh other always seems to be called Mints

ScrambledSmegs · 20/07/2011 19:50

Love it. Reminds me of Moondial.

cory · 20/07/2011 19:47

There's an Araminta in dd's school. And she has a double-barelled surname. And her dad's one of the teachers. She seems to bear up well though. Grin

scarlettsmummy2 · 20/07/2011 18:55

I really like it- and it was my first choice, but no-one else in my family likes it! I am trying my best to convince my husband but he hates it!

Chipotle · 20/07/2011 18:51

All these people who know lots of Aramintas? I've never met an Araminta in my life, maybe we move in different circles?
I'm a bit ffnnaaahh about it, it's neither beautiful nor hideous.

Colliewollydoodle · 20/07/2011 18:42

Probably get shortened to ARRY! Grin

Shinyshoes1 · 20/07/2011 18:39

its a bit like arrowmint

Shinyshoes1 · 20/07/2011 18:39

I don't like it,

PipFEH · 20/07/2011 18:36

I love Minty and suggested 'Araminta to be known as Minty' to hubby who just laughed at me. We are not very posh, but he does know loads of very posh people through work and liked the names Rupert and Hugo for this baby so obviously isn't too put off by poshness.......to me that suggests it is slightly comedy posh - sorry. Although I do still really love Minty (and think Evie and Minty sound lovely together).

LoveInAColdChamberOfSecrets · 20/07/2011 12:49

I like it very much although I was at school/university with rather a lot of Aramintas so I wonder if it is a bit too popular - although I haven't heard of any babies with that name so perhaps it was very popular amongst eighties babies and is due for a revival? It's on my list as well, though, so I am biased.

pilates · 20/07/2011 12:47

Dislike Araminta, but love Minty, sounds good with Evie too.
