As a middle name, as in the most beautiful girl in the world was called Buttercup (The Princess Bride)
Would have loved Elfie or Rosy Buttercup, but it sounds a bit cow-like!
Please consider as a middle name if you know the book/film.

DD has Bluebell as middlename and some friends of ours take the mickey and call her Buttercup...because DH's family are dairy farmers....

Gooseberrybushes · 15/07/2011 00:10

it's nice but because of cow thing I would say there are so many other lovely flower names you could choose

A1980 · 15/07/2011 00:07

Buttercup is a traditional cough mixture

Makes me think you want to copy Geri Halliwell - her daughter's middle name is Bluebell I think.

piprabbit · 14/07/2011 23:37

Makes me think of this song

I think it may be a case of flowery girls names gone mad and is another signifier of the end of the flowery/girly name trend. See thread on this.

i did consider it myself once in the search for flowery but different. it is cute sounding.... but I came to my senses and realised its for a cow/my little pony/fantasy princess....

yes surely the end is nigh

It's a cow's name.

Buttercup Cow, part of the Early Learning Centre range for newborns called Blossom Farm. But who cares what i think. If you like it, go for it.

"For I'm called Little Buttercup -- dear Little Buttercup,
Though I could never tell why,
But still I'm called Buttercup -- poor little Buttercup,
Sweet Little Buttercup I!

I've snuff and tobaccy, and excellent jacky,
I've scissors, and watches, and knives;
I've ribbons and laces to set off the faces
Of pretty young sweethearts and wives.

I've treacle and toffee, I've tea and I've coffee,
Soft tommy and succulent chops;
I've chickens and conies, and pretty polonies,
And excellent peppermint drops.

Then buy of your Buttercup -- dear Little Buttercup;
Sailors should never be shy;
So, buy of your Buttercup -- poor Little Buttercup;
Come, of your Buttercup buy!"

From HMS PInafore.

Sorry, but it just makes me think of a cow....

Ringosbaby · 14/07/2011 22:15

I love it. Our Rabbit is called buttercup. She is joyous!

Should point out that it is only the Rabbits name as DH would never even consider it for a child, middle name or otherwise.

LivinInATinyZoo · 14/07/2011 22:11

As you wish!

iMemoo · 14/07/2011 20:00

I love it!
