Buttercup

As a middle name, as in the most beautiful girl in the world was called Buttercup (The Princess Bride)
Would have loved Elfie or Rosy Buttercup, but it sounds a bit cow-like!
Please consider as a middle name if you know the book/film.

No, I think it's awful, sorry. I like 'nature' names generally, but that one just doesn't work for me.

JanMorrow · 19/07/2011 16:45

I like what you're going for.. and it IS pretty and cute, but I'd go with Bluebell or Primrose over Buttercup (even though I love The Princess Bride!).. but if you like it, DO IT!

manicinsomniac · 19/07/2011 15:19

Kind of cute as long as it's only a middle name.

I agree it is a cow's name but then so are Rosie, Daisy and Primrose and little girls get given these names as a matter of course. So why not.

aliceliddell · 19/07/2011 10:24

TillyIpswitch - you are a force of diabolic evil. Now have earworm of that bloody song. You sod. And it does remind me of dairy. Sorry.

TeaspoonThief · 19/07/2011 10:17

Not many Rhubarb - but i'm guessing none of them have Buttercup. Grin

Rhubarbgarden · 19/07/2011 09:17

How many prime ministers middle names do you know teaspoon?

TeaspoonThief · 18/07/2011 14:53

Not entirely sure it passes the Prime Minister test....

mamsnet · 18/07/2011 14:42

A cow

sparkle12mar08 · 18/07/2011 14:41

Awful. Just dire, sorry.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 18/07/2011 13:38

The options for 'buttock up' jokes would too great for me.

BibiBelle · 16/07/2011 11:07

She's never going to thank you for it though is she? Why not buy her a cuddle cow called buttercup for when she's born?

Karbea · 16/07/2011 10:37

Sorry, Definitely a pet or cows name.

threecurrantbuns · 16/07/2011 10:22

'choosing'

threecurrantbuns · 16/07/2011 10:22

Not keen if im honest...but saying that i do have a Daisy...when we told my DF he said it was cow fodder, good job i dont consider his opinion when chossing my dcs names :)

Rhubarbgarden · 16/07/2011 07:54

I love it and I'm considering it for a middle name too.

kenobi · 15/07/2011 14:55

Another one who immediately thinks of cows I'm afraid...

razzlebathbone · 15/07/2011 14:34

Go for it! I think it's fine to have fun with middle names!

PaigeTurner · 15/07/2011 14:32

Butters for short? In street slang, butters means ugly.

ShoutyHamster · 15/07/2011 13:07

Yay, Butt for short Grin

Go for it, it's a middle name, they exist to allow your hormones to TAKE OVER

Kayano · 15/07/2011 10:59

I love it and that is my favourite book!

DELHI · 15/07/2011 09:58

Primrose? Daisy? Buttercup is ridiculous and definitely more suitable for a cow or a rabbit.

littlemd · 15/07/2011 06:52

Its pretty and girly. I'd go for it x

GothAnneGeddes · 15/07/2011 02:06

I think Celandine is a better flower name.

monkeyslut · 15/07/2011 02:05

It's a middle name, who cares!

I think people can (and should) go as crazy as they want with middle names Grin
