Romy- is it too much like a nickname? Plus other names...

I was after a few opinions on some names I am toying with.

I like the name Romy but I'm not sure whether it is a bit unsubstantial as a given name. Does it sound too nick name like to you? (I don't usually like nns as full names eg Milly, Tilly, etc which are quite the thing at present but I do like Romy) and do you like it?

Other names:
Nola
Calla
Plum
Hazel
I saw Viola on another thread and liked that a lot also.

I love the name Romy

Mortal · 13/07/2011 22:07

Plum? Seriously?

Mortal · 13/07/2011 22:06

I used to buy weed off a Romy, I liked the name, think it was actually short for Romeo.

Pelvicflooragogo · 13/07/2011 22:05

Love Romilly and Romy but tbh Plum reminds me of Victoria Plum and boys' dangly bits! Sorry

PaperBank · 13/07/2011 22:03

I like Viola, and Hazel is OK. Not really keen on the others, sorry.

LaTristesse · 13/07/2011 22:02

Romy is lovely.

Don't really like your other names though I'm afraid. Nola reminds me of the Nolans! Plum: a bit try-hard, Calla: Calor...gas. Hazel is a bit dated. Prefer Violet to Viola...

dinosaurinmybelly · 13/07/2011 22:00

Oh Romy is just beautiful. I really like it..

jongleuse · 13/07/2011 22:00

Romy is a very pretty name. Unusual too, at least in UK.

suspiria · 13/07/2011 21:58

I think Romy is fine as a given name

Viola, Calla and Plum are also great names

mathanxiety · 13/07/2011 21:58

I love Romy, and know one who is 2. I think Romy is lovely as a full name, very acceptable. It's a German/Austrian nn for Rosemary afaik (thinking of Romy Schneider).

Of your other names, I love Hazel, Nola and Plum.

thisisserious · 13/07/2011 21:55

Thanks table
jess-The other names aren't middle name ideas so no Romy Plum :)

If anyone has opinions on likes/ dislikes/ suggestions from the other name list, that would be great!

My sis is called Romany and we call her Romy, not a suggestion lol, fact! Wink

Please steer away from Romy Plum....although it sounds delicious, sounds a bit too edible! Romy Nola is beautiful!

romillysmum · 13/07/2011 21:37

I have a Romilly who we always call Romy. I think Romy is a name that works on its own and I love it (but also love Romilly too!)

TableVamp · 13/07/2011 21:22

In that case yes I think it does work, and I like it.

thisisserious · 13/07/2011 21:19

I don't like Romilly much, just Romy.
I wasn't after suggestions for full names to be honest, more whether you think it works well as a given name.
Many thanks.
